Annika's Trip to Japan

Donation protected
Martin Luther King had a dream. He dreamed that one day people would not be judged by the color of their skin, but by their character. And that everyone would be treated as equal.

I have a dream too. My dream is to take an adventure of a lifetime to Kawasaki, Japan in March 2016 with my fellow Model UN delegates on the Lawrence Middle School team. To travel through the countryside by plane, train and bus.  To learn about world issues, so one day I can make a positive difference in the world like Dr. King.

But I can’t do it without help. I need to raise $4,000 by the end of the year in order to get to Japan.  Which is why I started this page. I am looking for donations – no amount is too small or too big - from $1 to $4,000 dollars.  Please consider a personal donation.  Or perhaps your company would like to sponsor me? In addition to this Go FundMe page, I also plan to do as many chores around the house, babysitting services around town, searching through couch cushions for change and baking cupcakes and cookies to raise as much money as I can.

A Little Bit About Me:
My name is Annika Sundberg. I am 13 years old and am a 7th grader in the magnet program at Lawrence Middle School. I have two sisters, a brother and an awesome dog named Riley.  I love photography and find it really fun to take pictures from different perspectives. I play two instruments. In my school intermediate band, I play clarinet and am highest rank (I’m playing my Mom’s clarinet from when she was in school!) I also love to play the guitar as an extra curricular activity after school. I’m a Cadet Girl Scout (come to me for your cookie fix in the spring!) and an artist who loves to draw. I love school, love to learn (am a straight A student), love to read all books, and consider myself to very lucky to be in such a great academic program at Lawrence Middle School. My favorite subjects in school are Science and History. Not sure what I want to be when I grow up, but know I want to do something that will help people and make a difference.

A Little Bit About My Trip To Japan and MUN:
I am so excited to be given the chance to attend the conference as a Model United Nations (MUN) delegate. MUN is an educational program and academic competition that allows students to take on the role of delegates from different countries, and act as a representative for that country. We learn about many types of global issues from the point of view of our assigned country. We think about these issues the way our assigned country would think about them based on their cultures and beliefs and then take our knowledge and debate with other teams.

The expedition to Japan is nine days – the first six days my classmates and I will get to see and experience some of Japan’s most famous landmarks.  (Including a night in Tokyo.) The last three days we will be competing in an MUN conference with students from around the world. I'm really excited about both parts of the trip. Excited to see another country, check out their architecutre, and learn and look at life through different perspectives,  beliefs and values from people from all over the globe. I’m also excited to be able to take some cool pictures of everyday Japanese life.

My dream isn’t a very good one compared to Dr. Kings. But just like him, I hope to change the world for the better. This experience with Model UN can help me to maybe some day to do just that.

Going on this trip would be the opportunity of a lifetime and I would be so grateful to be able to attend. Please consider sponsoring me. And please pass along my page to any family or friends who also might want to help a 13 year old girl get to Japan.  Any amount helps … and every dollar is appreciated. In return for your generosity, I’m not sure what I will do, but I promise it will be something really cool. At the very least, I’ll share some of the awesome pictures I’ll take while I am there.

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!

 Annika :)
