Hi everyone-
For those of you who don't know, this is Annie Mirra.
I don't know what to say or where to begin but I think that if Annie were to describe herself, the first thing she would tell you all is "I am a nurse"...
Annie was an RN at Yale New Haven Hospital's St. Raphael Campus in the Surgical ICU. She was the epitome of what it means to be a nurse. She loved her patients and devoted her life to helping others. She was known to always go above and beyond in her role and always had a smile on her face!
Annie was always full of life... Life, love, and the pursuit of anything that created laughter as she would put it! She was a beautiful person both inside and out. Kind, thoughtful, and graceful are just a few words that come to mind for anyone who knew her. She had a knack for making people feel at ease, and knowing what you needed before you did. With a warm heart and open arms, she always put others before herself.
Annie recently had an incidental finding of a large brain aneurysm. She had a procedure to place stents on Thursday August 6th. She spent her post-operative time in the Neuro ICU at YNHH to recover, and initially was doing very well. But, for some reason I don't believe anyone will ever truly grasp, her aneurysm ruptured and just like that, she was suddenly fighting for her life.
Unfortunately, her prognosis was grim; her loving husband and family made the most honorable decision of respecting Annie's wishes and on August 11, 2020, Annie became an organ donor- a true hero. Of course, her last act here on earth was to give herself to others, like she always did!
A beautiful tribute for a truly beautiful soul, Annie was honored during a 'Hero Walk' before giving the most precious gift of all ... LIFE. She was surrounded by her husband-Jon, family, and many friends during these last moments.
While many hearts are broken over this loss of such a tremendous young woman, Annie is now very much alive through others despite this tragedy.
*A special thank you to the Neuro ICU team for the amazing care and efforts on Annie's behalf*
We are asking for donations in efforts to support Annie's wonderful husband Jon as well as her loving family during this most difficult time.
Thank you to all who have reached out and already contributed, it is appreciated more than you know. #AnnieStrong
