My dear friend Annie Burger has to undergo a bilateral mastectomy on February 10th. On November 23rd she was diagnosed with "Ductal Carcinoma in Situ." It was caught on a routine mammogram which then needed a follow-up mammogram. A biopsy was recommended and the diagnoses came from those results (with two more biopsies) Following all that, they decided to move forward with a bilateral mastectomy to avoid more scares, radiation, and the need to take estrogen-blocking medications which have the potential for several side effects including more cancer...

Let me tell you about this beautiful, resilient family now...

The Burger family will inspire you. They have been through more hardship than most people could even fathom. Yet, they are humbled, generous, hard-working and kindness exudes from each of them. Annie and Leo have 3 fabulous kiddos. Ezra (14), Eleanor (13) and Ivan (9). Their two boys have a rare genetic disease (Mitochondrial defect) and both have had heart transplants. Ivan suffered a stroke while waiting for his donor heart, which has left him in need of physical support, wheelchairs, and transfers, and also has seizures. This is what complicates Annie's recovery...Leo will also need to take off work. They are both self-employed "hair extraordinaires". But as most of us know, if you can't work, you cannot earn an income. This is where YOU come in.
