What do you hold special in your heart? Is it your health? Your family? Your home?
What if your biggest fears became a reality and EVERYTHING you valued were at risk by no fault of your own? If you got sick, were unable to work, got fired, were denied disability, unable to afford health insurance, unable to go to the doctor for refills.
Sadly, this is the reality for my friend Annie, who was diagnosed with CML, a form of leukemia which is not immediately life threatening, but one which MUST be managed with medicine. Annie's employers unfortunately had no patience or sympathy and let her go without any disability, and now she is facing a financial future so bleak that she doesn't even have money to pay her doctor for a blood test to get her lifesaving medicines refilled.
About Annie: like me, Annie is a selfless animal lover. I "met" her on Facebook when she fell in love with a precious tuxedo kitty I was raising funds for to pull from a high kill animal shelter - Annie was so enamored of this cat that she drove from Gainesville, Florida to adopt her after she had recuperated from spay surgery at my house. The days between my posting about this cat (who she sweetly named after me - Sammie) and Annie coming to pick her up were filled with excitement on par with a kid at Christmas. Several months later, she repeated her trip to adopt another adorable little feline, Cinderella.
Annie is a passionate animal lover and rescue advocate; even while sick she spends her time advocating for the voiceless in the country's worst animal shelters. Her struggles are breaking my heart, and I reached out to her to see if we could raise some money for this sweet and selfless human who gives and gives and thinks of herself last. A less generous person would have surrendered her pets by now, but Annie is her own last priority.
I ask of you all, whatever you can spare, please help me help Annie get the medical treatment she so desperately and immediately needs. Trust me, this world needs someone this kind and generous to stay alive as long as possible!
