We were brought up on the American dream. Work hard, do the right thing, be a good person, and things will work out. We tried. We really tried but sometimes things you can't work your way or do the right thing or be good enough to work through. For me that was something called gallbladder ileus (you can look it up, but don't, it's gross). It's a rare event that landed me in two ERs and then on to middle of the night emergency surgery.
In the next few days came two more procedures that only told them that I have more procedures in my future. Then a very serious post op infection set in. My incision was opened and for days they didn't know if they'd have to operate again to clear out the infection. This multiplied my healing time into months, not weeks.

All of this came after one remarkably emotionally and financially taxing year trying to salvage our family business (the person who was supposed to buy it in installments, instead ran up debts that we made good on to take care of our crew and vendors). It took everything we had. I work in a tiny toy store (I know, right? It's the perfect job for me). Which means, we had no health insurance.
Things were looking up as my husband got a new job with insurance (that took effect the day AFTER I was released from the hospital) so my aftercare is covered, but his job is commission only so his paychecks are not a guarantee.
For the first two months I was unable to work. In the last few weeks I work 3-6 hours a week then spend the next days worn out. I still have large gallstones so there is no day I don't have an issue with what I call my 'crummy tummy', plus the pain of my incision, having all my abdominal muscles severed.
We're turning to go fund me to just get a start on paying our bills.

It guts me to do this. And speaking as someone who was recently, literally, gutted I do not say that lightly. The money will go to surgeons, doctors, ambulance, tests and the like. The total is so much I don't know if we will ever pay it off but any help anyone can give will be so greatly appreciated. Thank you
