Annie and Pete

Hi, my name is Allie. Many of you may know that Annie and Pete’s house was destroyed by smoke damage when a fire started in the vacant house next to theirs. The smoke damage is so extensive that after evaluation by a fire remediation company and insurance, it was determined that the house will need to be completely gutted. They have had to move all of their salvageable belongings into storage and/or have them professionally cleaned, which will take about a year to get back to them. The restoration of the house will also take at least a year, leaving Annie and Pete displaced in the meantime. While insurance is covering the cost of remediation, restoration, and replacing what is replaceable, a litany of other expenses have piled up. Annie and Pete are fortunate enough to be able to stay with family in Annapolis while their house is unlivable. However, there are many hidden costs that insurance does not cover in an event like this. The additional miles added to their respective commutes and vet bills for emergency care for both cats (luckily Morty and Potato are doing great but needed to be checked out for smoke inhalation). And this is just to name a couple.

In addition to the nightmare of having their home ripped away from them suddenly, Annie and Pete no longer feel safe living in an attached dwelling (totally understandable) and plan to sell their house once it has been rebuilt. The unfortunate reality is that with a vacant house to the left of their home, and a now burnt out vacant house to the right, selling will be challenging to say the least. The owner of the house that caught fire is deceased. The city has not taken a single step towards cleaning up the wreckage. Annie has already started which is sure to be a long process of requesting a lien certificate on the vacant property (another cost), as well as the Register of Wills documentation in hopes of finding the owner’s beneficiaries. While Annie and Pete are displaced from their home, they will have to continue making their regular mortgage payment. When the time comes to sell, they may not make enough on the sale to cover what remains of their mortgage.

This whole ordeal has been traumatizing and stressful for the Sagengigans. I know you all love them as much as I do. They’re two of the absolute best people I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. I’m honored to call them my friends and while I can’t take away the hurt in their hearts at such a devastating loss, I want to do everything in my power to try to ease the burden.

Please join me in donating to help ease the stress for Annie and Pete.
