On February 19th 2017 at approximately 6am, I woke up with a sharp pain in my stomach, which I thought may have just been an upset stomach and would soon pass. I endured severe nausea and vomiting that would not stop. I then called my neighbor to come over. She drove me to the hospital, where I continued to vomit for about 6 hours. During this time in the emergency room, blood tests were ran and a CAT scan performed. The results came back and the doctor told me I had a mass in my stomach, which ultimately resulted in metastatic carcinoid cancer of the stomach. I was immediately admitted to the hospital. My whole life has changed from there. I was in and out of the hospital for 5 weeks. During the first week I had an endoscopy with a biopsy and the doctor removed some scar tissue from my abdomen. I was told that I would need another surgery when I am stronger and have healed from the first one. I have a total of 3 masses in my body. The mass in my stomach may be difficult to remove because of its location. The other two are located in the small intestines. I am currently a patient at a hospital that specializes in cancer. I will be following up with the physicians there to see which option is best for me. I have been informed that I could receive injections to help shrink the tumor in the stomach since surgery may be difficult to do at this time because of the location of the tumor. Surgery will be performed on the metastatic tumors in the small intestines, however.
All of my bills (hospital/medical, utilities and mortgage)are behind. I have to chose whether or not to pay a bill because I have to get back and forth to the doctor's office, pay a copay and get prescription medicine for the cancer. It has been overwhelming because I have been out of work since this happened and only receive disability which is 66 2/3 of my income which had already been reduced by 5 1/2 % due to a decrease in salary across the board at my job.....I have been crying everyday because it's hard. I live alone and would like to continue living in my home and someday return back to work in good health.
I am asking for any help that you feel you can give that will help me to continue receiving the necessary medical treatment for this cancer that I don't want to claim but was told I have by the doctors, also any help that you can give so that I can remain in my home with my utilities all on and up to date.
Thank you for your love, support and generosity in helping me to reach my goal, although I will still worry, I will stress a little less due to everyone's support for me. May God continue to bless you all.
