Annette Nguyen's Passing

On Saturday, July 18th, our beloved mother Annette Nguyen was admitted to Fairview Ridges hospital for liver failure. She had toxic levels of ammonia in her system and severe swelling all over her body. Her liver failure was so advanced that it also caused kidney, heart and ultimately lung failure. After 10 days in the hospital, she passed away peacefully surrounded by her six children on July 28th.

She lead a very private life and carried her illnesses in silence and alone so as to not burden her children. When sorting through her house this past week, we found a diagnosis for cirrhosis in January of 2016. She courageously fought and lived with this condition for 4.5 years. She suffered not just physically, but also mentally from liver failure. The cirrhosis caused hepatic encephalopathy, which affects brain function. For her, this included depression, memory loss, paranoia and anxiety.

As an immigrant, single mother of six children with very little formal post-secondary education, she held several hourly jobs throughout her adult life to provide for her children. She did not have a will or much savings at the time of her death. If you are able, we are asking for donations to help with the medical, funeral and burial costs from her unexpected passing.

We greatly appreciate your prayers and kind gestures. Our mom may not be here anymore but her hard-working and caring spirit live on through us and those who knew her.

Love,

Kim, Dan, Lynn, Catalina, Anna and Phillip.
