George's Medical Fund
Donation protected
Friends of Anne Lewis (filmmaker, activist, professor) invite you to help out someone who has always been there to help others.
In Anne's words:
On March 14 my dearly beloved 35 year old son George had a terrible moped accident and suffered serious brain injury. He fractured his skull, his shoulder, 3 ribs, his pelvis, his foot, and collapsed a lung. George is a Union carpenter, woodcarver and outdoorsman.
Since March it has been a battle with insurance companies and the medical system, and general anguish for him and our family.
At this time George is medically stable but his badly fractured foot has never been fixed and is a constant source of pain and agitation. He needs complex surgery -- screwing multiple dislocated pieces of bone together and fusing with a bone graft. The surgeon is waiving 1/2 of his usual fee but that still leaves more than we can afford. George is also in need of cognitive therapy. He was discharged too early from the rehabilitation hospital because of Humana X which is as limited as any other AFA plan. I go back and forth about how wonderful George has any insurance at all (thanks to Obama and supporters of the health care battle) and fury at insurance companies. And so it continues.
I’ve received many offers to help and experienced great kindness from family, friends, and colleagues. For that I am deeply grateful.
My reflective and emotional capacities are overwhelmed. I care about the relationships we’ve built and I need to feel happy, relaxed, and productive in my work and personal life. I would rather go this alone than have those things change. So if you will promise me that it won’t impact our ability to interact with simple pleasure or passionate struggle, I would happily accept any contribution.
With gratitude,
Anne Lewis
