A word from Annee...

We all carry causes and stories close to our hearts, and every now and then, one comes along that tugs so deeply at your own that you can’t help but share it.

This one is mine.

Late last year, When Sir Chris Hoy announced that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, it stopped me in my tracks. Here was someone so strong, so healthy, so full of life – he has 6 Olympic Gold medals to his name and suddenly even he is facing the potential reality of a not so bright future.

What moved me most was not just his courage, but his decision to do something with it, to raise money for cancer charities and to create an event for fellow Stage 4 survivors. As many of you know, I am a cancer survivor. The moment I heard about this event, there was no question my heart said yes. It didn’t matter that I haven’t been able to ride a bike in 27 years, or how far it was, or even where, I had to be there.

So… we are going tandem! Stable boy will be in front, steering us as always, and together we’ll take on 90 km of Glasgow’s finest hills on September 7 – rain, hail or shine!

We have chosen to support Maggies Cancer centre, unique places of care and support, created to help people navigate the emotional, practical, and social challenges that come with a cancer diagnosis.

For me, this is more than just a challenge. Sharing an event with people who have been on a similar journey, overcoming stacked odds will take me back and certainly there will be tears. Surrounded by so many Inspiring people some on stationary bikes because that’s what they can manage others riding a course – all looking forwards this will just be AWESOME!!!!

Life gives each of us different hurdles, different battles, no one or no one’s is greater just different. For me, I want a life full of memories not just dreams!!!
