Anne S. Lacey Fund for Duke Biology Grads
Donation protected
Help Sponsor an Independent Initiative to Establish a Fund in Honor of Anne Lacey to Support our Bio Grads! Fundraiser Deadline is May 31.
ANNE LACEY --- If you graduated (or advised a graduate) from Duke University with a PhD in Zoology between 1981 to 2000, or a PhD in Biology between 2000 to 2021, then you know Anne...
ABOUT ANNE
Anne is retiring on 30 April 2021. She has been the Administrative Coordinator for Graduate Studies in Biology for 40 years (20 years in Zoology, and 20 in Biology after Zoology and Botany merged departments in 2000). During that whole time she has been the "heart and soul" of our Graduate Program and assisted more than 500 students and faculty to navigate the complex departmental and graduate school requirements at Duke. In recognition of her unparalleled commitment and service to our community, our goal is to raise money to establish a fund in Anne's name for future Duke Biology Grads to benefit from. Let's do this!
Anne is truly the institutional memory of graduate education in the Biology Dept. She has copiously documented the progress of every graduate student in her meticulously maintained files. Whenever there is a need to reconstruct a past decision about Graduate Program procedures, Anne is the first person to whom every DGS and faculty member has turned. In 2018, Anne received the Pillar of Excellence Award from Duke's Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. These awards honor "non-teaching staff who have made significant contributions to the excellence of the school through their commitment to service, initiative, outstanding leadership, increased efficiency, enthusiasm, collaboration, mentoring, and diversity." ... A very apt description of Anne herself!
Anne Lacey's impact at Duke (both inside and outside the Dept. of Biology) has been one of sustained excellence for 40 years! We owe Anne an enormous debt of gratitude for her resolute commitment and dedication to the Biology Graduate Program at Duke.
Please Join us in Making a Donation to Sponsor this Tribute in Honor of Anne! All those who contribute can make their names public or private as they prefer.
MEET ANNE'S NOMINATORS
Kathleen Pryer, Sonke Johnsen, and William Morris are three Duke Biology faculty members who have had the privilege to work with Anne as a Director of Graduate Studies in Biology during her tenure. We have a great appreciation for the formidable tasks and responsibilities that Anne has so expertly accomplished, year after year, and we look forward to working with Duke to establish a Bio Grad Fund in her honor, so that her name will continue to resonate with our Bio Grads well into the future!
This is not an official fundraiser through the Duke Office of Alumni Engagement and Development. It is an independent initiative. Donations made to a GoFundMe fundraiser are considered to be personal gifts, and donors should consult with their tax advisers as to the deductibility of any donation to this effort. You will not be issued a tax receipt from Duke.
