Hi! Just in case some of you don’t know me, I’m Anne Marie Pope’s sister, Aimee Covington.
She was very unexpectedly diagnosed with colorectal cancer in November 2020. She has suffered multiple complications, misdiagnoses, and setbacks that have forced her to seek additional medical help at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. The most recent complication required emergency surgery to treat and put her in the hospital for over a week, having nothing but clear liquids while the rest of us enjoyed Thanksgiving.
She’s been in treatment for over a year and still has a great deal ahead of her. She returns to the Mayo Clinic on December 13th for an examination and biopsies under anesthesia. Radiation treatment will follow very soon after at Mayo, then (at a minimum) colon resection surgery here in Mississippi at UMMC. Then yet ANOTHER surgery approximately 8 weeks later at UMMC to reverse the temporary colostomy she received at Thanksgiving.
Anne Marie has insurance, thankfully, and received a significant amount of financial help in the form of donations from friends and family at the very start of her cancer battle. However, that was over a year ago when she was still being told her treatment would be complete by May. Now she’s facing having to meet her $1,000 insurance deductible yet again in a few weeks, and the portion of her medical bills that insurance doesn’t cover is steadily rising again. She’s single and unfortunately neither me, our other sister Andrea, our parents, nor her son are wealthy enough to help much… she’s basically on her own, which has to be terrifying.
I hate to resort to asking for help and she’s going to be embarrassed and upset when she finds out, but this IS something I can do for her. She’d do it for me.
Please help if you can… we need her back to being her usual healthy, bossy self ASAP, and she can’t do that when she’s constantly worried sick about how she’s going to pay all her bills. Cancer is a MONSTER and the dollar amounts on her statements are obscene.
Thank you in advance and Merry Christmas!
