Hello my name is Colleen Casey, Some of you are aware that my mother, Anne, has been struggling with her health since 2017, but few know the severity of her illness. She was diagnosed with Primary Sclerosis Cholangitis, also known as PSC. PSC is an incurable autoimmune disease that destroys the liver. The only life-saving treatment is a liver transplant. Medicines have only helped keep her symptoms of abdominal pain and swelling, fatigue, jaundice, and itching at bay. Unfortunately, the disease has progressed to the point where these medications are almost non-effective and the urgent need for a liver transplant has moved her to the top of the national transplant list. In the meantime, she will soon have a stent surgery done to relieve her current symptoms and to help her survive until a liver is found. Though my mom is strong, both mentally and physically, this disease has taken over her life and resulted in more frequent hospitalizations of longer durations.

As we know, health insurance only covers so much. There are many other expenses associated with this process, including deductibles, co-pays, and travel expenses to and from the doctors and hospital located in New York City. The purpose of this fundraiser is to help offset the financial burden of these expenses while my mom is waiting for and recovering from this liver transplant.
