Here is the story of my 13yr old daughter Annayah-Grace Curry, On the 8th Sept 2024 Annayah-Grace played the first game of rugby of the new season for Cardiff Quins..During the first half she went in to seal a ruck and a girls swinging foot hit her in the side of her knee which resulted in a complete rupture of the ACL and MCL. This devastated Annayah-Grace as rugby is absolutely everything to her.She had an MRI in November to confirm this..The consultant suggested physio for a year to see if the ACL healed by itself and to strengthen the muscles incase an op was needed as her growth plates were still open..Annayah-Grace was told she could go back to contact sports in july providing she wore a certain brace..we as parents felt this was not possible but allowed her to do a school rounders game, this resulted in her tearing her meniscus just by jogging from first base to halfway to 3rd base..A further MRI scan suggested the ACL had not healed atal and the growth plates had closed. She is now awaiting surgery which could take a years wait, with recovery time it could mean she will have been out of sport for over 3years..We feel as her parents we have no other choice than to see if we can raise the funds to go private. This has had a devastating affect on Annayah-Grace and her mental health to the point she does not leave her room/house because in her words what's the point because she cant do the things she loves the most, even walking leaves her in pain on a daily basis she cant join in with friends and have fun because her knee has restricted what she can do. Annayah-Grace has played sport (mainly rugby) since she was 8years old first joining Pencoed RFC and goin on to achieve a place in the Bridgend District u11s squad who went on to win the DC Thomas in the principality stadium..Annayah-Grace Captained the first Bridgend District Girls team in a 7s tournament in merthyr which was a great succuss, she then moved on to play for Bridgend Athletic before the WRU ruling stopped her playing mixed rugby..The journey continued with her playing for Ogwr Hawks then finally Cardiff Quins..Annayah-Grace is waiting assessments for autism and adhd which has always been a battle in itself for her which is why rugby plays such an important role in her life ..To have that taken away from her has been heartbreaking to watch she is a shadow of her old self and needs to get back to playing at some level..We have looked into private surgery and as you can imagine it is £1000s ..We are a very private family and this is the last thing I thought I would ever do but I cant sit back and watch my daughter suffer anymore mentally and physically...Thankyou for taking the time to read Annayah-Grace's story we really appreciate it xx
