Anna's Fight Against Brain Cancer

Donation protected
17 year old Anna is a senior in high school that enjoys many activities a normal 17 year old would. She loves being with her friends, going on walks with her dog (Duke), and always strives to get good grades in school. She is one of three daughters of the Stencil family. However Anna is faced with struggles that most highschoolers would never think of.

Starting in middle school, Anna was unable to take part in many of her favorite activities such as basketball, being outside with her sisters, and even going to school. When she was in 5th grade, she began to experience chronic fatigue, muscle aches and pains, extreme dizziness, and many more symptoms. She was unable to attend full days of school. In 2014, Anna began to experience seizures regularly. After years of trying to find a diagnosis, she was rushed to the emergency room after she experienced more than 10 seizures in one day. Anna went to the Children’s Hospital in Madison where they took an MRI of her brain in 2019. They then found a tumor and immediately scheduled her first brain surgery. The surgery was performed at Mayo Clinic. This tumor was benign, so there was hope her long path ended.

However, on March 3rd of 2021, Anna unexpectedly had a grand mal seizure and was rushed to the emergency room by ambulance. She was then rushed to Mayo Clinic to get an MRI. They found another brain tumor that had grown in the location where the previous tumor was removed. That week, on March 12th, Anna was undergoing her 2nd brain surgery. After removing the tumor, the biopsy indicated that it was a very aggressive cancerous glioma brain tumor. Anna’s doctor shows concern that the cells remaining will grow back fast and continue to show the previous signs and symptoms.

On March 25th of 2021, Anna had experienced another grand mal seizure that lasted about 50 minutes. Again, she was rushed to the emergency room by ambulance. The next day, they went to Mayo Clinic to discuss treatment options in hopes to stop Anna’s suffering.

On April 12th, 2021, Anna will begin six weeks of radiation therapy at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Anna and her parents will be spending the weekdays in a hotel, then returning home to the rest of their family and dog on the weekends. After this therapy is complete, she will begin one to two years of chemotherapy. Anna is currently a senior in high school, however school is put on hold for the rest of the year so she can undergo this treatment.

With high hopes to kick this cancer, the family looks forward to seeing Anna accomplish all her life goals and dreams. After successful treatment, Anna plans to attend UW-Oshkosh for Nursing. She wants to work in the operating room so she can help comfort those suffering like herself. However, she still has a long road ahead of her.

The Stencil family not only appreciates donations, but thoughts and prayers in these rough times. Please help Anna reach her goal to help the family cover medical and relocation expenses including: two ambulance fees, two previous tumor removal surgeries, hospitals stay fees, and medical expenses for her upcoming treatments to end her fight with cancer.

Thank you and God bless.
