Anna May Bosma's Medical Fund

Donation protected

Anna May Bosma is a big sister to Jacob and the beloved daughter of Les and Heidi Bosma of Harbor Springs, Michigan.  She a lifelong best friend of my niece, Lauren.  Her parents and my sister and brother-in-law ( Jen and Matt Collins) are the best of friends as well.  That's where I come in.
I'm not related to Anna, however, I do feel like an Aunt to her and I am willing to do anything I can to help this unbelievably, courageous child and her incredible family.

Anna is 13 years young.  She is smart, beautiful, strong, funny, generous, loving and perhaps, most importantly, a fighter!  She LOVES reading.  She also loves hunting, fishing, boating, camping and spending time with her friends and family, among many other things.

Unfortunately, Anna has cancer, a rare adult cancer called epithelioid sarcoma..  She has been putting up a most courageous fight with this awful disease for the last 3 years.

Throughout the past year doctors have monitored Anna closely with several scans and routine blood work. They have also been watching different areas in scans that have shown suspicious enhancement.
Spring of this year confirmed new lesions in the liver and 7 weeks of radiation was done. The Doctors decided to start her on 2 new inhibitors. Since then, another mass on her wrist has formed, there are new lesions to the liver, and suspicious areas are of concern on the brain, esophagus and tissue of the lung. They are starting radiation and other chemo regimens at this time.
Anna will be receiving another 7 weeks of radiation treatment at U of M Mott. Not only is this a 4 hour drive, it also means spending the next 7 weeks in an apartment or a hotel, in addition to the hospital. She will only to be able to spend weekends at home for most of the summer.

This battle has been emotionally, mentally, physically, and financially draining on the entire Bosma family.  I have created this page to try to help them with all of the expenses and lost wages they are encountering now and in the future.

Please take the time to read the timeline below to get a true understanding of the hardship and heartbreak this brave child and her loving family have endured over the last 3 years.  If you are in a position to donate to Anna's medical fund, it would be very much appreciated.  Please share with your friends and family so that we can get this family the support they need and deserve.

Anna's Battle:

In March of  2012, Anna was diagnosed, at the age of 10 years old, with a rare type of adult cancer called epithelioid sarcoma.
In April of 2012, partial amputation ( 3 fingers and most of her hand) to her right hand was performed at Mott’s children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor Michigan because the tumor could not be removed without the amputation.
In June of 2013, the cancer returned to her lymph nodes in her right arm and armpit.  At this time, her lymph nodes were stripped and she endured 7 weeks of radiation.  Once radiation was finished, her diagnosis changed to metastatic recurrent epithelioid sarcoma.
From October 2013 to January 2014, Anna received chemotherapy.
In January of 2014, scans showed several nodules in her liver so the Doctors decided to do radiation for 7 weeks, once again.
In March of 2014, consultation at Sloan Kettering in New York and a chemo drug called Pazopanib was given. Mott and Sloan Kettering would work together and closely monitor Anna on this drug.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read Anna's story.  If you are unable to donate, prayers would be greatly appreciated!
