On this day (June 4th) three years ago, my big brother, Travis, died in an accident at his work. Needless to say, I have not been the same since. Needless to say, every June 4th I am an unholy mess, typically attempting to numb the pain with a glass of whiskey.
This year however, I choose not to give in to the darkness. This year, I choose to make a positive change in my life.
Since his death, I have struggled with anger, anxiety, panic attacks and depression. I have been to therapy, but the main thing that has helped me to become whole again has been kickboxing and yoga.
I started training Muay Thai a few months after the funeral, and a year ago I started teaching kickboxing and it changed my life. For the first time in a long time, I found fulfillment. My pain was no longer the thing that fueled me. Instead, I found happiness in helping others to become happier, healthier, and more confident.
It has become my life's ambition to continue down this path and to focus my energies on becoming the best trainer/teacher that I can become.
That is where this page comes in. I have been wanting to do my Yoga Teacher Certification for a couple of years now, but have not had the funds. I believe that doing this intensive will not only help further me as a professional in the fitness industry, but will also help me on my path of healing.
This Fall, my partner, Walter, and I will be moving back to NYC so that he can pursue his dream of becoming a New York Fire Fighter. I would love to have my certification before we move so that I can begin teaching once we are in the city.
The program I would like to enter begins on July 5th at Black Swan Yoga - a donation based yoga studio where I currently practice. Here is a link if you would like to see what/how I will be learning :)

These funds will go towards my deposit and tuition for the program - which I will attend 5 days a week from July 5th-29th.
