Hi everyone. I'm Michelle. Here I am with my cousin, Anna. And that sweet angel baby is her daughter, Ruby.
Anna and Ruby are two of my favorite people on this planet. Since we were kids, Anna has been my singing mermaid sidekick. The Ariel (pronounced Ah-ree-ell, like how Sebastian the crab says it) to my Ariel (pronounced the regular way--also, shout out to our other sidekick, the mermaid Cereal a.k.a. Jessica!)
The first time I met toddler Ruby, she immediately hugged me and called me Ahn-tay (Auntie) and melted my heart.
And Anna's hubs/Ruby's dad Matt a.k.a. Giant Ruby--he's pretty cool too. I mean, I want to be like, no one is good enough for my cousin! But he's proven himself through his endless support of his wife and daughter. They are honestly the most precious family!
As many of you may know, in August 2017, when Ruby was just a wee one, Anna was diagnosed with stage 4 colorectal cancer that had spread to her liver.
As you may also know, Anna kicked its ass--mostly. She's endured 13 rounds of intensive chemo, one week of intense radiation, one major surgery and a second surgery that was supposed to make the last of the liver tumors die away. This warrior woman has been through it all.
Unfortunately, the last surgery wasn't fully successful, and new scans show the tumors still in her liver.
This is where you come in, friends.
This amazing, ass-kicking mama needs your help for the next round of treatments.
The new treatment is called Y90 with Radio-embolization, and Anna will also be taking a chemo pill in combination with a liver angiogram which involves injecting the liver with microspheres that will emit radiation for twelve days.
Anna and Matt are still waiting to find out if insurance will cover all this. And, through all of the treatments, Matt will continue working extremely long hours to meet expenses and maintain their health insurance. Fatigue is the number one symptom that Anna will face, so it will be difficult to care for Ruby or do work around the house.
They'll use the money donated here to hire a nanny for Ruby, especially during the two weeks in which Anna can have no contact with her at all due to the radiation. It will also be used for any part of the treatments that insurance won't cover, and household expenses that might come up.
This mama urgently needs your help. She is the strongest person I know--and the money raised here will help her maintain that strength through this difficult process, and will help take care of little Ruby. Anna and Matt want desperately to put this chapter behind them and focus all their love and energy on their precious Ruby Kae. #forrubykae
