Help Ann, a single mom with Stage 4 Breast Cancer
Ann is a single mom to sweet 10-year-old Alexa, who is in my Junior Girl Scout Troop. Ann and Alexa are going through an extremely difficult time right now as Ann was just recently diagnosed with Stage 4 Breast Cancer that has metastasized to her bones and she has a large tumor pressing on her spinal cord that is putting her at risk for paralysis in the very near future.
Ann has been in remission from breast cancer since 2014. Things were going well until last year when she started feeling a lot of back pain and pain all over. After many trips to the doctor they finally diagnosed her with fibromyalgia this past February. The treatments were not working and on April 9, 2018 she was rushed to the ER due to excruciating pain where they did a CT Scan and an MRI and found that the cancer was back and had metastasized to her bones and created a large tumor near her spinal cord. She was in the hospital for 11 days while they contemplated surgery. For now they are treating the tumor with radiation to try to shrink it. She had to be readmitted to the hospital for another overnight stay recently due to overwhelming pain that was not yet well managed.
She is undergoing $17,000 of radiation treatments and may still require surgery on her spine, which also has compression fractures from top to bottom and has caused her to develop scoliosis and height loss in the past few weeks.
After radiation, she will have to undergo hormone therapy and chemo. She is also having lung issues and is using physical therapy and currently at risk of developing pneumonia. She has a fitted body brace to wear to protect her broken spine.
Ann is unable to drive a car, unable to work and has no health insurance. My heart breaks for Ann and Alexa in this difficult situation and I hope that you can find it in your heart as well to help them by donating to help ease the financial burden of her medical costs while she is undergoing all of these treatments.
Thank you so much for your donations and thoughts and prayers!
