For those of you who were lucky enough to be parishioners of Fr Jim McGhee, you know firsthand his devotion and selfless service was always accompanied by his sweet wife, Ann. Fr Jim and Ann served in the Episcopal Church for 30 years before leaving in 1992 to enter the Catholic Church. Fr Jim and Ann served in the Diocese of Amarillo (Canadian/Wheeler, TX, Dalhart/Texline, TX and Hereford, TX) from 1993-2003 when he retired and then served in the Diocese of Ft Worth (St Elizabeth Ann Seton, Keller, TX) from 2003 until his death in 2016. Even though he was "retired" anyone who was a member at SEAS or attended the Catholic School at SEAS can attest that he served in more than a full-time capacity, as was his nature of fully devoting his life to the Church and all people.
Unfortunately, as a married Catholic Priest, there are no provisions in place through the church to financially care for his widow. His pension ended when he died and there are no direct funds available for this situation, according to either Diocese. While this is certainly an oversight by the church from a legal standpoint, we want to make sure that Ann is well taken care of in the way that she deserves. While Ann has been living with her daughter Mary since Fr Jim's passing, her daily needs are now increasing to the point beyond what the family can handle. The family has identified the Catholic Assisted Living Community of St Joseph Village in the DFW metroplex. This would allow Ann the daily assistance she needs as well as the ability to attend Mass daily and live in a faithful community of her peers. All while allowing her family (children Mary, Renee, Rob, and several of her grandchildren) the ability to visit her daily and oversee her care. The goal number would cover the cost of the facility for a year while Mary and her family continue to try to gain additional assistance from either Diocese where Fr Jim and Ann served or directly from St Joseph Village and/or their parent company, CHRISTUS Health.
Any donation, large or small, is GREATLY appreciated. Ann McGhee is a saint of a human being and deserves nothing less than the best possible quality of life and care. Regardless of your ability to donate, we would ask that you share this page so it can reach as many people as possible. Please pray for Ann and her family as they navigate this difficult time.
