Ann Karge's Tough Month: She Needs Your Help

Last August, Ann Karge moved to a great assisted living facility in Mars Hill, NC. She had waited months for a spot to open up and has truly thrived there. She loves her friends and the community she’s found. Ann and her daughter, Ally, have been thrilled to find a great fit that is also covered by Ann’s medical insurance.

On February 14th, Ann was taken to the hospital with severe infection brought on by cellulitis. Since the 14th she has been in-and-out of the hospital and a rehabilitation facility with countless infections, sepsis, a collapsed lung, and terrible pain. Last week Ann had her toe amputated and biopsied, and has begun a course of antibiotics that is finally working with her infection. Her clever and fun personality is starting to return and everyone hopes that after another stay at the rehabilitation facility, she can finally go home.

This entire month, Ally has been by her mother's side as an iron-willed advocate, a caretaker and a loving daughter. The two have truly been through it all.

Despite renewed hope, there is mounting concern because each day Ann is at the hospital or rehab facility, insurance will not cover her regular home at the assisted living facility.

For every day Ann is away from her assisted living facility, she and Ally must pay over $200 out of pocket. This month alone, costs have reached $6,000, not including taxes and fees. The financial strain is mounting, which is especially daunting considering Ally's lost income from Hurricane Helene.

We’re hopeful that in about a week and a half Ann will be able to return to her home, surrounded by her caring community and the support she needs. In the meantime, I’m also hoping we can relieve some of the financial burden on Ann and Ally. Every donation, no matter the amount, will be a huge help as they navigate this challenging time.
