Dan McCabe - "The road to recovery"

During the Labor Day Weekend, our friend, Daniel "Dan" McCabe, was injured. Dan had finished the third stage of the Green Mountain Stage Race - the toughest bicycle race of the year within New England - and was riding back to the hotel with the junior racers. Dan has provided a lot of coaching, mentoring and support for local high school athletes in bicycling and other sports.

On the Sunday, while riding with the juniors after the end, Dan crashed his bike on the Appalachian Gap in Vermont.

Thanks to the medical team and many bystanders, Dan was able to quickly get transported to MGH in Boston. As of right now, Dan is in stable condition but we are expecting some time for him to make a full recovery in the hospital with a number of surgeries remaining.

All of our thoughts are with him and his family during this difficult time.

For those of you who know Dan, whether it be from BikeBarn, Cycling Group Rides, or Whitman, you know that my words will never accurately capture his full character. Dan is the fellow with the positive smile and the most energy. He is so much bigger than words.

For those who don't know Dan, let me try. What makes Dan an outstanding cyclist has less to do with his dedication and skill of riding and so much more to do with character. Dan leads by example and has a great ability of getting anyone to start enjoying cycling. Dan is among the most dedicated, hard working athletes around. Most importantly, he is a great mentor to anyone he comes into contact with. His positivity and willingness to educate and share information has touched thousands of cyclists and athletes over the years.

Join me and the many others whom have always received a helping hand from Dan in supporting him with these fundraising efforts. All money raised will go toward Dan’s rehabilitation needs, and various medical costs and expenses. Thank you, in advance, for your generosity and support.
