Help Us Honour Anita Wright with a Memorial Bench!
Anita Wright was more than a beloved mother, neighbour, and friend; she was the heartbeat of Port Royal during some of its hardest days.
During the isolation of COVID, Anita brought joy and connection to the community through the creation of the Cupcake Rock, a hand-painted rock she'd hide around Port Royal. Families would follow her clues, hunting for it like treasure. Once found, it could be exchanged for a box of four cupcakes, always baked from Anita's heart. It gave people a reason to smile, walk outside, and feel a little less alone.
But Anita didn't stop there.
She hosted a neighbourhood BBQ for her entire building. She baked cakes and treats for neighbours just because. She even set up a dog-kissing booth, because of course she did. That was Anita: joyful, generous, full of spirit.
Originally from Ontario, Anita moved to Port Royal in 2018 and fell in love with the community. When she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in 2022, she never asked "Why me?" but instead, "Why not me?" She met it with strength, humor, and a fierce desire to help others. Through her TikTok and Instagram accounts (with over 800,000 followers combined), she raised awareness for ovarian cancer; the "silent killer" - and shared honest, compassionate tips about living through chemo and navigating MAiD (Medical Assistance in Dying).
Anita passed away on May 7, 2025, surrounded by loved ones.
To continue to spread the joy, a memorial bench will be placed within the beauty of her beloved Port Royal neighborhood, a welcoming addition to sit and reflect.
This lasting tribute in the community where she loved so much will be a special place to honour her, to sit and reflect, and to take in the beauty of the neighbourhood she helped bring to life. It's even possible the Cupcake Rock was hidden nearby during one of her joyful scavenger hunts. We are confirming the location.
Our goal is to raise $4,100 to cover the cost of the bench.
If Anita made you smile, made you think, or helped you feel less alone, please consider donating. Whether it's $5 or $50, every bit brings us closer to placing this bench where people can sit, reflect, and remember a woman who gave so much.
As her daughter, who moved to Salter Street in February this year to be closer to her, this bench would mean so much to me too — a place where I can sit and feel connected to the woman who brought such light to our community.
Thank you for helping us honour her legacy.
