Hi, my name is Micah, and I’m fundraising for my friend, Anita. Many people know Anita and know she’s had a hard time, but I don’t think very many people know just how hard it’s been. She is completely bedridden and has been for about 2 years. She’s been trying to get disability but stuck at 90% completion for what seems like ages. She needs a doctor’s approval, but she can’t get to the doctor without medical transport which she can’t afford because she can’t work and because she can’t work she also lost her insurance. Her daughter is her caregiver, as she requires 24/7 care, so she can’t work either. They are all living in a one-bedroom apartment with Anita’s mother, who has a plethora of her own health problems. It’s all been a vicious cycle and never-ending nightmare. I know I’m sharing a lot, but they are at the point where I don’t think she’ll care. They need a miracle, honestly. Maybe you can be part of that miracle. There are so many details involved, I could never remember them all, so I’m going to share from Anita herself:
“Hello, I am Anita Goad. I am 43 years old and and taught Elementary School for 16 years. Teaching is my dream, my passion, and my love!
On August 29, 2022, when leaving work the ball of my hip joint completely broke off. After a total hip replacement I woke up with nerve damage to my leg and foot as well as a severe case of drop foot.
Insurance only covered 60 days in the nursing home. Due to the extent of my nerve damage an inability to move my foot on my own, that meant being sent home still bedridden. Unable to stand, transfer, or walk I am only able to travel by non-emergency stretcher transportation. Which my insurance would not cover. I have since lost our insurance after using all the money I had saved in my 403b to pay our monthly insurance payment of 1,667 until it ran out. Because of those factors I have been unable to get anywhere to get any further treatment.
I already had a great deal of health problems prior to this happening; Systematic lupus erythenatosus, Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteoarthritis Fibromyalgia, Lynphademia, Asthma, Sjögren’s syndrome, IBS, Edema, Glaucoma, Vertigo, Allergies, vein disease, and a few others.
I am unmarried and require a 24hr caregiver. My only child Dashawna, who was a substitute for our county had to quit her job to care for me.
Losing both of our incomes has left us with nothing. We've lost our apartment of 16 years and now live with my disabled mother in her 1 bedroom apartment. My mom lives on her disability income and is barely able to make ends meet, so she is feeling the stress of paying a higher light and water bill with us here.
We've lost our insurance as well and had to give away the majority of our belongings. We don't have money for our remaining monthly bills, medications, supplies, necessities, or needs. We are in GREAT need of some helping hands and prayers!
Keeping up with the many medications I need had been extremely difficult and I have had to skip doses and go without some of the more expensive ones. This has caused a great deal of problems!
I have applied for disability and am still waiting on a decision. I have also applied for medicaid many times, but they have to wait until I am determined disabled.
Even once we are approved for disability I have a long and expensive road ahead of me!! Even if approved for disability there will be many cost that medicaid doesnt cover. I am going to need extensive therapy and rehab which may include inpatient services. If so, my daughter will need money for gas and food to come see me. I will need stretcher transportation, which is very costly. I may be looking at corrective surgery on my hip to try and see if the nerve damage is correctable, as well as surgery on my foot. My ankle has been stuck in the same position for 2 years now and will most likely have to be broken and repaired, if the Neuropathy and nerve damage is reversed or repaired.
In addition, one of the autoimmune diseases I have is called Sjogren's Syndrome. Because of the dental damage it causes, I have to go to the dentist twice as often for cleaning and preventative care. Since I have been unable to do so, I have extensive damage to my teeth. It will be a long and expensive road to repairing what used to be my best feature. I have always loved to smile and laugh and had a big bright smile that I loved to share. Now, I have a mouth full of damaged teeth, constant infections, and unbearable pain. I want to be able to keep smiling and that is going to very costly!
There are also other medical problems and procedures that need urgent attention and will require extensive medical care. However, I don't want to go into them due to my privacy.
Aside from medical expenses we will also need to get our own place to live. We will be starting from scratch, so we'll need to completely furnish and equip it to meet our needs. Once I am finally taken care of and able to get back on my feet (Lord willing), I will need specialty or adaptive equipment to help me with daily living, needs, and tasks.
Thank you for taking the time to read my story! Prayers are very much needed and welcomed. Please feel free to share our gofund me with your friends and family, as well as on your social media pages. Any and all help is welcome and much appreciated!!
