Anita Jackson's Spinal Injury Rehab Fund

Donation protected
2 years ago, what was to be a holiday of a lifetime in Kenya my partner Anita suffered a Spinal Injury T12 as a result of a fall..

In December 2016 we went on what should have been a dream holiday of a lifetime to Kenya .
Our plan was to spend a week at the coast, a week on a Safari, then head to Nairobi to spend Christmas with Anita's mum, whom she had not seen for 3 years.

On the 1st day of our holiday while sunbathing on an elevated area above the beach, Anita lost her grip while turning her sunbed, stumbled backwards and fell 8ft on the beach below, resulting in T12 Vertebral Fracture and incomplete  Spinal Cord Injury.

She was rushed to Mombasa Hospital and spent 7 hours in surgery to relieve the pressure  on the Spinal Cord, she then spent 3 days in ICU before getting airlifted back to London, she spent a month in The Royal London  hospital before getting moved to the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore to begin her rehab, where she spent 3 months.

When Anita finally got discharged, Anita never got to go back to the flat we lived in for 3 years as, we had to move in to an adapted flat in Canary Wharf as our flat was not suitable for a wheelchair, over the next few months life started to get very difficult for us, as in I was working long hours and Anita was spending most of the time on her own in the flat.

We then decided as Anita had no immediate family in the UK to move back to Burtonport co Donegal, where I knew we would have the help and support of all my family.

It took a while to get everything in place, a suitable house, GP, OT, Physio etc, but looking back now it was the best move we made. Anita continues her rehab and with 2 sessions a week on the Ekoskeleton Bionic Suit which allows her to get up and walk with the No Barriers Foundation.

The days between her Ekoskeleton appointments she uses a Motomed Viva 2 leg and arm trainer, which maintains her strength and fitness and is of huge benefit to her rehab, unfortunately it's supplied on a 3 month rotation through the HSE which means, she has it for 3 months and then it goes to someone else, so the hard work she done for the 3 months is lost until the machine gets returned again.

I was very reluctant to do the GoFund me route, but the adding costs of keeping up Anita's weekly rehabilitation activities, and now the Motomed gone it's a big loss to her .

With the money, we would LOVE to purchase a Motomed Viva 2 arm and leg trainer for Anita so she can continue her rehab  and with the hard work and determination she shows she will achieve her rehabilitation goal.

Thank you so much for your support!
