FUND A UNIQUE ANIMAL RIGHTS POETRY BOOK
Donation protected
My name is Gerry Boland, I'm Irish, and I've been an animal rights and vegan lifestyle advocate for four decades. I’m also a published poet (3 collections) with a strong belief in the power of words to inspire change. Over the past five years, I’ve written 50 poems - each one a personal response to a photograph on the WeAnimals website [https://weanimals.org/]. The photos and the corresponding poems explore our complex relationships with animals and reflect my sadness, my anger, my frustration, but also my firm belief in a kinder, more compassionate world.
Lantern Publishing (a not-for-profit) [https://lanternpm.org/] have agreed to publish the poems and corresponding photos. They're the perfect publisher for the book as they are long-time supporters of animal rights and vegan projects.
The funding will be in two stages, this stage 1 to pay for copy-editing, typesetting, layout/design, full cover design (front, back, spine) and final proofread.
Click 'SHARE' to keep the campaign moving along on two legs and on four legs!
Here is one of the poems that will be in the book. On the facing page, there will be a photo of sheep crammed into a livestock truck. Once a month, as the fundraiser progresses, I'll publish a different poem from the book.
CARGO
We’re in the slipstream of your fear,
a fear that fouls the wind tunnel
of these high hedges shadowing
mean northern roads.
We shut the windows –
the stench would turn a cast-iron gut;
worse, the sleeping child will wake
with questions we cannot answer.
Your journey has just begun,
across endless motorways
and seas that dip and rise
to the camouflaged slaughterhouses
of Casablanca, Cairo, Algiers, Gdansk.
There will be the usual welcoming party
as you stumble down the ramp,
a greeting undreamed of
as you grazed the soft meadows
over dark northern bogs.
Thank you for your support
