My sister Amata lives in Santa Fe New Mexico where she founded a sheep sanctuary in 2004. Amata has multiple physical disabilities but has dedicated her entire life to caring for aging, injured and unwanted lambs, sheep, goats and horses. Her work is completely volunteer with no financial compensation. The animals are her family and she is completely committed to them.

Last week Santa Fe experienced extreme storms and flash flooding in what experts are calling a 1000 year event. During the torrential rains the arroyo behind her property was converted into a raging brown river with high waves and tumbling rocks. The waters rose 25 feet within minutes. Additionally 3 to 4 feet of water rushed down from the mountains, through Santa Fe and continued to rush through the house and sanctuary. The house, corrals and property were completely flooded and destroyed.Read about flood in the 3 articles below:

Water flooding the animal enclosures As soon as the water began to rise in her house she waded through the waist high water to the corrals to rescue an angora goat named Pearl that was in her hospice care but the goat’s cot was under water and the goat was already drowned .
Pearl Before the flood
Pearl after the flood waters receded. The Red Cross arrived the following day and inspected the property. Her house is one on the 14 homes that they have classified as “DESTROYED” and the RED CROSS says that it is one of the 2 worst hit in the entire storm and completely uninhabitable.. As of today my sister has no home and over 60 animals to care for. All of the animals food was flooded and destroyed as well.
There is no flood insurance on the house.

I am starting this fundraiser so that we can humbly request assistance for the overwhelmingly massive cleanup and rebuilding of the house , property and animal enclosures that we will be facing in the coming months. Amata will also need temporary housing during the process which will need to be specific for her health needs. It will also be necessary to find new homes for some of the animals as well. It is a dire circumstance but we are optimistic that with help from our friends and kind hearted people in our communities that we can recover from this unbelievable and horrific disaster.
Expenses will include:
Paid team of cleanup help. We do not have volunteers yet.
Fans to dry up the water
Rip put 3 to 4 feet of damaged drywall in entire house
Replace water lines
Temporary living space for Amata
Complete refurbish of house including
appliances
Complete refurbish of corrals
Replacement food for animals
And so much more that I will be detailing soon.
