"She didn't think it could happen to her, but it did.”
Animal Rescuer homeless with her 7 pets due to domestic violence.
Hello, my name is Michele and I'm organizing this fundraiser for my Dear Friend, Lorrie.
I first met Lorrie 14 years ago through a mutual Animal Rescue Friend. Over the years we've become very close friends. Lorrie has worked in Animal Welfare for 36 years. She is by far, one of the utmost dedicated Animal Rescuers I've ever met, saving hundreds, if not thousands of animals during her many years of animal welfare work (Dogs, Cats, Rabbits, farm animals, Turtles, Birds, Lizards, Snakes, Spiders, etc.… and although she saves puppies and kittens, she has always had a heart for the adults and/or the sick or injured animals, the ones least likely to be adopted, rehabilitated, or saved).
Last week, even though she and her pets are homeless, she rescued three puppies that ran out in front of her vehicle. She immediately got on the horn reaching out to local contacts to find placement for these puppies. There were some that told her to put them back where she found them and she refused, knowing that she would just be putting them back in Harm's Way, sentencing them to a certain death- one way or another. Even though it was an inconvenience for her, living in a minivan with 7 animals of her own, she could not throw these puppies away.
Lorrie, her 6 dogs, and her cat Thomas, were displaced and rendered homeless due to extreme domestic violence. Over a 4-year period, Lorrie went from an independent, self motivated, bubbly, helpful, outgoing, effervescent and self-confident woman who was known not only for saving animals, but for many talents, including plumbing, home repair, remodeling, painting, cooking, and thrifting – among other things…. To an isolated, depressed, overwhelmed, humiliated, tormented, assaulted, and tortured Victim of an absolute MONSTER.
While she's been hesitant to discuss things of such a personal nature with the public, we talked and found no other alternative to her receiving the help she needs. You can see some of her injuries in the photos. She was beaten, broken hip, bitten, sexually assaulted, verbally, physically, emotionally, mentally, spiritually and financially abused on a regular basis by her “Loving Partner.” Some of her injuries (MANY are documented by emergency room visits, hospital stays, police records and arrest) include a broken hip, torn knee ligaments, black eyes, bruised arms and legs, cut/swollen lips, bite wounds, bruised thighs and other body parts, bitten breasts and other horrific injuries…. And many more were not documented… and some of the worst can’t even be seen but will forever leave their imprint on her mind and in her soul.
Lorrie had a teenage son in the home that we're thankful was able to escape. Her other children, while not in the home, witnessed the abuse through phone calls and video calls. Their relationship is obviously damaged now. Her young teenage son was not only a witness to the abuse his mother suffered at the hand of this DEMON, but he also experienced some physical and verbal abuse. Some of her other older children faced threats of assault as well, but I am not going to discuss that to protect their privacy.
Unfortunately, there is more than one oppressor in this story. The Monster’s Mother is also a central figure. Hiding under the veil of religion, she continuously berated Lorrie and endangered her, threatened the safety of her animals and physically abused her on October, 11th 2023. She colluded with her son to trap Lorrie in the house, stalked her, and made false reports about Lorrie and her son to manipulate many situations in her son’s favor, who, has a documented arrest record for past domestic violence against a family member (his youngest brother and his own daughter) as well as domestic violence against the previous ex-girlfriend.
Lorrie and her 7 pets have been living in a small town down south, several states and several hundreds of miles away from her home town, in her minivan (in extreme conditions), until some nice people recently put them up for a couple weeks in a motel. Whether you believe in God or not, this story gives you something to BELIEVE in. When Lorrie rescued the three puppies mentioned above, the Family that agreed to Foster them insisted on putting Lorrie and her pets in a motel once learning of Lorrie’s story, and selflessness, even during her own crisis. However, on December 13th, Lorrie and her 7 animals will be returning to living in the minivan, on the streets in freezing temperatures at night.
Lorrie has been isolated from her family and friends and made to be completely financially dependent upon her abuser. She has nowhere for herself and animals to go. Giving up her animals IS NOT an option whatsoever! Realizing the complications of finding a place to live, especially due to her several 4-legged fur companions, any monies raised will be used for financial support, procuring permanent housing for herself and her animals, vehicle repairs, food, gas, attorney, etc., until she can get back on her feet.
Due to the nature of her injuries, there are obvious physical and emotional disabilities that she now has that she did not prior to the abuse. Thank you for your consideration in helping my friend gain her FREEDOM and get her life back. Any little bit helps.
