March 2025 Update!
Many of you have heard me share about the Animal Sanctuary that I assist near Cancun Mexico. Irving and Miguel are such beautiful souls dedicating their life's purpose and mission to the animals in need in that area. They are working on building out a sanctuary where they currently care for over 100 rescue dogs, a few cats, and a few farm animals! They turn no one down and do their best to give every sacred soul a chance to live a safe, happy, and healthy life where they may know they are loved and appreciated.
They cover extensive medical treatments & surgeries, feed all of the animals and provide safe shelter for them each and every day. This is their life. All animals they assist are rescues from dire situations, I honestly don't know how they do it day after day.
While we are looking for additional ways to get the dogs into adoption back in the United States, we also want to help keep the beautiful animals in a safe and healthy sanctuary. Irving and Miguel have a beautiful sanctuary in the jungle just outside of Cancun. You can see it here:
Last year they built out a new safe shelter for the dogs protection during the rainy and often stormy hurricane season. It is all brick and provides amazing shelter for them. You can see it in the background of these pictures!
This year they are building an important pool for the dogs to cool off during the very hot summer months. The pool is being built where the red umbrella is and you can see a few of the dogs hanging out in the shade and curiously, lovingly and gratefully awaiting the pool!
See the attached pictures of them already at work!
In addition to the pool expenses, They are always grateful to receive support to cover medical expenses for newly found rescues and food to feed the 100+ animals EVERY DAY! So, I ask once again that you consider donating to this great cause.
It is my passion and mission to assist the animals, our beautiful companions that do not have a voice very easily heard by humans. They need us to lovingly advocate through our compassionate hearts, voices, and actions to support them.
As Within So Without, As Above So Below.
As Abdu'l Baha' shares,
"If an animal be sick, let them try to heal it, if it be hungry, let them feed it, if thirsty, let them quench it's thirst, if weary, let them see that it rests."
....
"Therefore one must be very considerate towards animals and show greater kindness to them than to man."
Abdu’l-Bahá, Bahá’í World Faith, p. 374
In Closing
I donate a set amount monthly through Paypal directly to the sanctuary not for profit and send additional funds when I am able and they are desperately in need. You can do the same here on Go Fund Me or directly to them via Paypal at: @santuariokuxtalac
I donated to support desperately needed surgery for this rescue's badly injured leg and he is now on his way to finding a home where he can share all of the love that he is. His name is Canelo - isn't he the sweetest!
Last year I also assisted with the expenses for Panque who had two broken legs - another brave little angel that was desperate for human assistance along with his friend Nucita.
Panque when originally rescued with two broken legs.
Panque during his treatment - look at his spirit shining through despite having metal rods and pins in both legs! He is grateful and persevering.
What Can You Do Now?
We would appreciate your assistance with a donation to support the buildout of the pool and the numerous other items they need to provide medical care, shelter, and feed the dogs.
If you are interested in assisting like I do locally in your area with a trip to Mexico to fly back with several dogs, please reach out. Part of the challenge is getting them here. They need flight volunteers and a local shelter to take the dogs! Truly it's a very easy process and they take care of everything!
Thank you again for your consideration and loving presence on the planet at this time. May we remember our divine birthright and responsibility and may all beings feel the grace and loving kindness of God within and through our open and awakened hearts.
In Unity,
Kelly
November 2024 Update
Hello Beautiful Souls,
Our dear friends and their 100+ rescue dogs in Mexico need your assistance as they move into 2025. They were able to finish the new building for the animals, but now are struggling to feed the 100+ dogs every day. Can you imagine feeding that many dogs every day????
We ask for you assistance either with a 1x donation or a weekly/monthly pledge to them. If this calls to your heart as it does mine, we humbly ask for your support of the dogs again in this now.
Blessings,
Kelly
Hello Fellow Animal Advocates,
My name is Kelly and if you've found this fund raiser, it was meant to be, I invite you to listen to my story and why I'm assisting my friends in Mexico at Santuario Kuxtal.
About a year ago, I was planning a trip to Tulum with my daughter for January of 2023. I like to do some type of service work when I travel for vacation so we were planning to bring sports equipment with us to donate locally. However, during the same time, I was also looking to start volunteering at a local animal shelter. I searched locally in my area and found Border Tails Rescue and as I was reading their website, I "synchronistically" found that they needed volunteers to bring dogs from Mexico back to the US for adoption.
I believe that there are no synchronicities and that everything happens for a reason, so I immediately contacted them. Harliegh, the owner, actually started her shelter because of a dog she brought back from Mexico from the founders of Santuario Kuxtal. She now runs an amazing shelter that places dogs from the Chicago area and from Mexico when they have volunteers to bring them here.
Fast forward, My daughter and I planned to bring two dogs home with us from Mexico on that trip. Of course we met the owners of Santuario Kuxtal in Cancun. They are beautiful "angels" helping "angels" on the streets of Cancun. They met us at the airport with Tapioca and she is now our beloved family member - although that was not planned at all!
Tapioca had been found living under a car her leg so injured that it needed amputation. She was starving and in very bad shape when they found her. Santuario Kuxtal, gave her a home, medical care, nurtured her back to health, and found her a home here with us. She is now a vibrant, loving, grateful, and amazing being that simply would not be here without Irving and Santuario Kuxtal.
The problem of stray dogs in Mexico is immense as most local residents do not have the money, time or the understanding about how to care for or even respect animals. As such many are left severely injured, starving, in pain, and dying in horrific conditions on the streets unless they are rescued.
I have kept in touch with Irving the founder of the rescue for the last year. Since returning he reaches out to ask about Tapioca and on his first trip ever to the US this summer we all met at Border Tails for a reunion with Tapioca! He and Miguel are kind souls and passionate about their work.
I have been donating to the Sanctuary since my return as best I can, but they need more help to get ahead of the flow of financial responsibility that goes with this mission work.
Daily they are faced with:
Costs for building and maintaining the Sanctuary which is urgently needed now!
Food for the animals
Veterinary Care
Travel and Transport of the Animals
While they have accomplished so much and saved so many lives, They are in a cycle of always being in a state of emergency or as they say URGENTE! as new animals are found in desperate shape almost daily. They are often on the brink of no food for the dogs, and asking for donations for urgent medical care. They are helping so many animals (even farm animals), yet they are struggling to set a base of strong financial support.
Irving once told me:
"This is a project of life, you know. We are here in this world to support animals and other persons. It is our reason of life, especially dogs, they suffer a lot on the streets here."
I know the hearts behind this sanctuary and they are pure angels to do this work. They will not give up, it is their mission and purpose in this lifetime to help the dogs, cats, and other animals of Cancun that are in need of human assistance, but they need a supportive community.
They need our our help.
Right now they are in the process of constructing a new building to shelter the dogs safely during the rain and hurricane season. They need roughly $3,000.00 US for this urgently.
I am asking for more in this fund raiser to provide them a solid financial base for food and medical care so they can breathe a little easier and get more stable footing going forward.
I am asking that you assist with a one-time donation now and if possible a monthly donation to Santuario Kuxtal through this Go Fund Me.
We have so much to be grateful for and it is truly easy to share - even when we think we don't have enough - we truly do.
In addition, If you want to be a flight volunteer, or adopt a dog, they have over 100 dogs needing new homes right now.
Here is the message that Irving the founder of Santuario Kuxtal wrote to all of you:
Hello!
We are the Santuario Kuxtal team, we started the rescue shelter in 2019 with the sole objective of sheltering, rehabilitating, sterilizing and finding loving homes for stray homeless dogs and kittens in the city of Cancun.
As you may know, it is a difficult task, very few people get involved and it hurts our hearts a lot to see so many little animals asking for help in the streets. We work long days, see so much suffering, but we are rewarded with seeing those that we have saved start a new life where they are surrounded by love.
Despite our challenges, we will not give up, but we call for your assistance to provide a safe home, food and medical care for the animals. They deserve not to be in the rain and to have a warm and firm space to sleep in. After everything they experience on the streets, the shelter is a place of rest and where they find a temporary family until we find their forever home.
We have done our best, but we need assistance urgently now.
I have faith and hope that this new space will be completed in November, 2023, thanks to this fundraiser.
After several years working to improve the shelter spaces we now need to create a space so that all the dogs in the sanctuary have a safe, comfortable space that is a refuge from storms and hurricanes.
So far we have achieved the most difficult part, raising the material that forms the roof of the main building of the sanctuary, however, we have to get the concrete to finish this work, it has a cost of
$51,000mx/$3,000 usd.
We have changed the lives of hundreds of dogs and cats, today we need the support of all possible people to achieve this goal. We ask you to help our shelter, it is an important moment and we need to raise that amount as soon as possible to be able to finish this work. We must complete it soon as we the rainy season is here and the building is so close to completion.
Thank you so much!
Irving and Miguel

All of the animals in this world deserve to have shelter, food, medical care, and love just like humans. Unfortunately, they cannot advocate for themselves in our human world.
We have to step forward and help and
"Be The Change We Want To See In The World"
We are but a drop in the ocean and each time we step forward to make positive change it makes a huge difference.
We hope you will join us in helping these animal friends in need and supporting the important work Santuario Kuxtal is doing.
With Love & Gratitude,
Kelly, Irving, and Miguel
Please note:
All donations will be transferred from me in the United States directly to Santuario Kuxtal. Transfers directly from GoFundMe to Mexico are not available at this time.
