Animal Rescue Club Timeline:

The Animal Rescue Club at Bucknell University began in the Spring of 2022 by a student who saw how community cats on Bucknell’s campus suffered and made the choice to become part of the solution

The club begins to establish itself as an educational resource, but quickly begins to receive requests for help with kittens being found by students on campus

The club leaders begin to do their own rescues with their own resources and those donated by friends and family, not without pushback from the school. The club is determined to make a legitimate difference after experiencing first hand the crisis occurring in Lewisburg and the surrounding area

Soon enough, requests for rescues become overwhelming, and we begin to face huge backlash and pushback from the school.

In the Fall 2022 semester, the club is passed over to a new president who, while still accomplishing rescues, refocuses the club on its educational and philanthropic goals, establishing a strong relationship with local rescues such as Cherished Cats and Mostly Mutts to focus on volunteer efforts.

We are now focusing on growing our core executive group and establishing a strong foundation for the club to make the most impact in our town as possible. Our goals are TNR (trap, neuter, return) for the feral cats on Bucknell's campus that are unable to be socialized, rescuing and rehoming friendly cats and kittens, and advocating for the importance of preventing overpopulation in community cat colonies. We have rescued 60+ cats/kittens to date, all of which were adopted to loving homes!

Bucknell Student Government will not allow us to implement a club budget towards the care for our rescues (food, litter, vetting etc.) This means we must work solely from donations and any other funds we can gain from attending leadership events on campus (they utilize extra funding as attendance incentive.) Please consider donating to help us continue our work and make the world a better place, one kitten at a time!

This club has become an incredible resource for many, and we will never stop acting as a voice for those who can’t speak for themselves.
