Angus' #TickOff4040 Challenge

In the year tick off hitting the ripe old age of 40 I'm raising money in aid of the Lyme Resource Centre by aiming to ride at least 4040km throughout 2021 and every donation will help the #TickOff4040Challenge!

In the 8 years following her rash after a tick bite and despite early treatment with the recommended antibiotics my Dad's Wife, Sarah, has developed ongoing pain, muscular and neurological symptoms which have significantly impacted her normally active lifestyle.

Being heard and believed is an ongoing battle.  This could happen to any one of us who enjoys an outdoor lifestyle.

Ticks carry Borrelia, the bacteria which causes Lyme disease.  What is less well known is that they also carry a number of other bacteria as well as parasites and viruses which have the potential to infect humans.

Being bitten by a tick is akin to being stabbed with a dirty needle, there is the possibility of catching one or a cocktail of infections.

Whist there is increasing awareness of the classic Bulls eye rash which is a marker of early Lyme infection, this is not always present and may easily go unnoticed. Immediate treatment with antibiotics is effective for most, but not all patients.

Diagnosis of ongoing symptoms however is hampered by unreliable or absent testing.  Also by the absolute refusal within the NHS to even consider the possibility of tick borne infection as a cause of chronic illness here in the UK.

I hope to help by increasing the profile of the reality of tick-borne infections and raising money to support the Lyme Resource Centre funding much needed research and publicity.

Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to me.

More information about Lyme Resource Centre: We aim to educate the public and medical profession in Scotland about Lyme disease and related tick-borne co-infections and work with others to research ways to combat all tick-borne illnesses.
