On the morning of January 24, Kim went into Jake's room to wake him up and found him unconscious. Kim, an experienced ICU nurse, immediately started CPR on her son's lifeless body. Paramedics arrived and continued to work on Jake. Just as they were going to pronounce Jake's death, they got a pulse. Jake was immediately transported to Henry Mayo Medical Center where he was brought to the ER, treated and transferred to the intensive care unit. Jake remained on life support for the next 18 days while countless tests were done and family waited for hope, Jake's 20th birthday passed during his stay in the hospital. Sadly, Jake passed away the day after his birthday on February 10, 2021,
Jake is survived by his mother, Kim. Kim has spent her nursing career caring for patients just like her son in the ICU and in the emergency room. Kim has been an active single mother. She has spent countless hours devoted to her two boys and their passions. As you can imagine, she is devastated. Equally devastated is Jake's younger brother, Dylan.
Jake graduated from Bowman High School. He loved hanging out with his friends. He enjoyed skateboarding and spending time with his girlfriend, Emily.
These past few weeks have had not only taken an emotional toll on the family, but also a financial toll. The disability payments that Kim is receiving is less than her normal paycheck. Medical bills for 18 days of ICU treatment is expected to be exorbitant. A memorial service to honor his life and family counseling will be an additional cost.
Please find it in your heart to consider a kind donation to help Kim and Dylan in their time of sorrow and grief.
