Angles feat. Elle-Kari – Album production

Donation protected
Angles stir up things by announcing the soon to come premiere of their new, ambitious stage production ”The Death of Kalypso”. The work – which could be considered a contemporary jazz-opera – mixes irresistible and urgent tunes with scintillating instrumental and improvisational sections. Music and libretto is composed by Martin Küchen, arrangements penned by Alex Zethson; The singing star is Elle-Kari Sander. An eminent string quartet lift the opus to hitherto unseen heights.

The music was recorded in October 2022, and the intention is to have this 60+ minutes of music released on the independent Swedish label Thanatosis Productions in April 2024. Our ambition is to publish the album on Double-LP, CD and digitally.

For this we need your help. The costs are massive.
Please contribute whatever you like.

If you put anything over €60 you will have the double-vinyl shipped to you; and by contributing anything over €20 you'll have the CD shipped. If you’re in Sweden, all contributions over 500 SEK means that you can pick up the vinyl at our release gig in Stockholm in April 2024, and all donations over 200 SEK means you'll get a CD.

The Death of Kalypso

"The Death of Kalypso" is a jazz opera for our times — an archaic pantheon reflecting a self-indulgent hyper modern humanity. Roles and sides change constantly, in a condensed and atmospheric libretto. The music vibrates through past and present, through brass and reeds, piano and vibraphone, strings, percussion and a solitary voice. The crystal clear vocals of Elle-Kari Sander are the obvious centre of the opera. Together with the jazz octet Angles and four brilliant string musicians, they evoke pure magic. An electrified presence pervades the opera as a bulwark against the future.
