Hi everyone!
My name is Angélica and I am Colombian; I have been living in San Francisco for almost 6 years and I consider myself very lucky for everything I have.
If you know me, you probably know that I have a very soft spot for children and that I truly wish I could help all in need... but I have to start somewhere.
These are some of the children of the "Rosario de Chengue" community in Colombia-

Rosario de Chengue is a very impoverished community that has all kind of needs (as you can imagine) but I would like to help them with the following:
1) Collect funds to support a foundation that I have been in contact for the last year. The foundation is called Fundación Esperanza Vivaz (Lively Hope Foundation) and what they do is provide resources to the children and youth of the Rosario de Chengue community in order to help fulfill their basic needs. They also want to show these children that their dreams are valid and that they can succeed in life. Here is their Facebook page, follow them so you can see their pictures and videos:

I chose this foundation because they do not have a lot of funds, they are not known, and I can tell they are really working hard to help these children; the president of the foundation is passionate and loves what she is doing- she has a very kind heart.
The funds collected will be used to purchase food and different supplies to give to the children. The foundation currently has 237 children that are in need of clothing, shoes, food and hopefully Christmas presents.

2) Collect funds to provide the men and women of the community with family planning services and contraceptives for their use. I will be reaching out to organizations in the states to obtain contraceptives (or will buy them if necessary) and will be taking them to Colombia during my upcoming trip (December 20th).
While making myself familiar with the community and getting to know it, I realized that the majority of women of all ages, are pregnant and cannot support their families. As a result, they are having their children taken from them by social services and some of them are being given up for adoption.
One main issue is the lack of education; the men and women are not familiar with contraceptives and do not know their options. I spoke with the president of the foundation and she told me that the women of the community don't work. This community's culture revolves around the women staying at home, focusing on taking care of the children and endlessly enlarging their family unit.

I know this will be challenging because it requires they change their ways and habits. Nevertheless, I believe the children can be educated into creating a bright future.

Please help me make a difference in their life and hopefully impact their future.
They will thank you (and I will as well!) :)
