Scholarship fund for Angie's girls
Donation protected
On May 10th, Angie Kober Adams passed away after living with Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST) for ten years. This is a type of cancer that is not treated by radiation or chemotherapy, but by surgery--to remove tumors that can be removed--and medication. Angie knew that, ultimately, GIST would take her life. She did everything she could, though, to keep her cancer at bay. With a devoted husband and three precious girls, she had a lot to live for. And live, she did.
During the last decade of her life, Angie did everything she could to show her family and friends how much they all meant to her. Those of us who got to spend time with her benefitted immensely from her wry humor, her caring heart, and her passion for many important causes. Angie celebrated every new milestone she got to see with her girls--holidays, school events, and trips. She was incredibly grateful to see her oldest daughter, Olivia, graduate from high school and begin college.
Angie can also be blamed for bringing a small group of us together to complete the Portland Marathon--an ambitious idea that resulted in a series of trips and races in Portland and Montana. The last race Angie completed with friends took place this past October --the Missoula All Women's Diva Day 5K--a race to raise cancer awareness.
Angie's struggle against GIST required repeated surgeries over the years and a continuous series of medications--some fairly well proven and others completely experimental. These medications forced her to deal with challenging, unpleasant, and sometimes bizarre side effects, scans every six months to find out if her current treatment plan was working or not, and her family was faced with astronomical medical expenses for never-ending co-pays and other expenses not covered by insurance.
If Angie's story touches you, or if you are among her many long-time friends, please consider making a donation to a scholarship fund for her daughters. Angie's girls were everything to her and she would be very happy to know that her friends expressed their care for her by helping to support her girls in this way.
