ANGIE MELENDEZ (2001-2020) ✝️

Donation protected

Angie endured the past 8 months of her life, back and forth between 3 hospitals, with only one goal to recover and return home to her family. We as a family have seen our precious Angie grow up learning and observing many things in her life that influenced her in being such a powerful woman. She inspired many people in her life by demonstrating her courage and ambition on recovering from her sickness and coming home from the hospital.

Angie needed a life surviving liver transplant and successfully one was donated and transplanted into her ailing body in November 2019. The transplant was successful and her outlook was very good. Late December Angie was moved from a Manhattan Hospital to a recovery/rehabilitation center in New Jersey for a path to recovery and a return home. Unfortunately, within a few weeks, complications have set in and Angie was transported back to the Manhattan hospital for further diagnosis and care.

With a new year setting in, we all had high hope for Angie to make a successful recovery and a return home was all looking really good. Through good and bad, we maintained our hope and were all in it for the long haul. Angie was not giving up and was a true fighter and we were by her side all the way. By the end of February, Angie had already been through a Liver transplant and 6 months of grueling medical treatment.
March took a dark turn as COVID-19 was setting in threatening NYC and the world. Angie was moved again to another hospital in Manhattan to protect her from the COVID-19 pandemic patients. Even worse, except for mom, my dad and we siblings, were all no longer allowed to visit Angie at her bedside in the hospital. Angie needed us to be strong and we needed Angie to be strong. Our bond and our prayers was all we had now as Angie was limited to only her mom at her side in the hospital.

The COVID-19 pandemic was getting worse and the support that the hospital was able to provide was becoming difficult for them. We all maintained our hope for a miracle recovery and kept our faith in God. We continuously spoke with Angie on the phone and face-time to provide her our support, as a family. As March rolled into April, Angie was now in need of a Lung transplant and it was difficult to be done quickly as the COVID-19 pandemic was in full swing.
Angie passed away at “The New York-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital” Sunday morning on April 26th with my mom and dad by her side. We siblings were also blessed to speak with Angie on the night before through face-time. We have faith in our God as he had other plans for Angie and took her to heaven where she will be healthy and happy and free from pain, suffering, machines and a hospital bed.

We don’t want to accept our beautiful Angie going to heaven but we know she is now at peace and free from her suffering that she has endured. It was enough for her beautiful soul and now she waits for us in Heaven as she protects and looks down upon us all from above.
Angie is only 18 years old and now will spend her eternity in heaven with God and all the angels. We are lost and our hearts are broken. We lost a daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, classmate, friend, and a beautiful soul.
Angie is no more on this earth in the chapter of life and now her souls live on within our hearts forever. She taught us the love and strength that we have to be strong together. Angie now lives on within our hearts and our mind forever and until we are together once again.

We love you always and forever Angie,
Dad, Mom, Keven, Chelsea, Melvin

 "Until we meet again"
by: unknown

Angie..

Each morning when we awake
we know that you are gone.
And no one knows the heartache
As we try to carry on.

Nuestros corazones todavía duelen con tristeza
y muchas lágrimas aún fluyen.
Lo que significaba perderte
Nadie lo sabrá nunca.

Our thoughts are always with you,
your place no one can fill.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we love you still.

Siempre habrá un dolor de corazón,
y a menudo una lágrima silenciosa,
Pero siempre un recuerdo precioso
De los días en que estabas aquí.

If tears could make a staircase,
And heartaches make a lane,
We'd walk the path to heaven
And bring you home again.

Te mantenemos cerca de nuestros corazones
Y allí permanecerás
Para caminar con nosotros a lo largo de nuestras vidas.
Hasta que nos encontremos de nuevo.

Our family chain is broken now,
And nothing will be the same,
But as God calls us one by one,
The chain will link again.

“No matter how screwed up things seem to get, we will never let you down”-Melvin

“Angie was such a sweet girl she made everyone smile and made people feel well. She was also a beautiful girl with beautiful brown eyes and hair she had a lovely smile. When you were around Angie you would automatically feel her happy presence. She was a smart young girl that had so much knowledge and had a unique personality. We all love you Angie rest easy angel ❤️” - Arely, Sherlly & Omar

“Angie was the sweetest, most generous, beautiful, and kindest person that was brought as a blessing into our family. She was as beautiful and fragile as a rose but with that she was one of the bravest. She had a pure heart of gold and would never hurt a fly, literally. She was very quirky and had an incredibly positive attitude to everything. She was also very timid but she had a lot to strive for and passionate about everything she wanted to achieve like graduating, going to college, and traveling to japan.  I could’ve asked for a better sister. Now that she has left this world with the other angels, I know to hold a special place in my heart for my best friend and I know that she’s still here with me to support me like she’s always done and I’m very thankful to have had someone who understood me very well and supported me no matter what. I miss you Angie❤️”-Chelsea

”-Mom❤️
