Help Pave the Road to a New Kidney

Donation protected
It was in 1998 that I first met Angela. At eight years old she lay in the bed next to my son Leland, at Boston Children's hospital, recovering from one surgical procedeure after another. For the next 16 years, Angela continued to be tangled in IV tubing and drainage bags, amidst a symphony of sensors that beeped and buzzed throughout the night promising to keep her healthy. Angela now has grown into such a strong, smart, kind and warm-hearted young lady who would do absolutley anything for anyone. Angela is now living with us in Western Massachusetts undergoing outpatient dialysis and playing tag team with inpatient infections, all the while wearing out the pavement on the Mass Pike with our frequent trips to Boston hospitals.

My God daughter Angela is now in end stage renal failure and in desperate need of a kidney. As Angela battles with advanced renal disease she also battles with the cost of outpatient care and accomodations, these are costs that go far beyond what medical insurance will cover.

A native of Kenya, Angela was born with Polycystic kidney disease and lost her first kidney soon after she was born. After treatments in Zimbabwe and South Africa, Angela finally made her way to the United States for more thorough treatment in Boston. After her first Surgery here in the U.S.,  Angela returned to Africa to finish her high School education still garbed in tubing and bandages. In 2011 Angela returned to the States on an Academic visa to study at West Virginia University where she double majored in International Studies and Social Work. All she has ever wanted to do was to help change and better the lives of the children of the world. Her academic career was frequently interrupted by health issues, but that never detered her from her goal of graduating college in order to head on to graduate school.

It is now, in Angela's final semester of college, that she has had to take yet another medical leave, and this time the situation is that much more dire.  So the Marshall family; John, Kitty, Leland and Wyatt, on this Thanksgiving eve, have decided to launch this GoFundMe campaign in the hope of raising money to help support Angela's medical expenses which continue to skyrocket, while she journeys forth in the hope of finding a new kidney.Thanksgiving is not just a time to give thanks for what we have, but a time to help those in need so they can be thankful as well.

Angela is loving, inspiring, and continues to touch so many lives. She rises above her illness to the best of her abilities to be there for anyone in need,  I am certain that if you met her, you wouldn't hesitate to find a way to help her get her life back.
