Angi Chompff Memorial Scholarship

The first class Angi Chompff took in Religious Studies happened to be the first time I taught Intro to Religious Studies. She was such a bright and lively student that she made the whole class better and more fun, and I felt grateful and fortunate to have her in class. When she asked if I thought it was a good idea for her to get her Master’s degree in Religious Studies at CSU Long Beach, I told her it was a fantastic idea and promised to hire her as soon as she finished. She came back to OCC with her degree in Fall of 2014 and immediately became a favorite teacher. Students loved her great sense of fun in learning and her colorful presentations, and her friendliness and professionalism endeared her to students and staff.
Tragically she taught for only one beautiful year before cancer took her. In that short time she inspired many others. Her friend and classmate at CSULB, Phil Simpkin, is now a professor of Religious Studies at OCC, and the two of us want to continue in the spirit of Angi and inspire others to follow in her footsteps.
The Angi Chompff Memorial Scholarship in Religious Studies will be presented in May 2020 to a Religious Studies student at OCC who is planning to transfer to the Religious Studies program at CSULB.
Any amount is welcome, and your $5 or $10 or $20 will have twice the impact if you can donate by December 2! The OCC Foundation will match funds collected, up to $2000, if we turn it in on Giving Tuesday, December 3. This would provide a scholarship of $4000.
Thank you all so very much.
