Angels Need Facility For Rescued Animals
Tax deductible
Angels Rescue of North Texas (ARNT) was founded 20 years ago by Betty Wiley who was disheartened by the number of dogs that were being abandoned at a local lake and its surrounding streets in South Dallas. She began picking them up one by one and taking them to the vet for the appropriate health care then searching for just the right home for them. Someone who met her at the lake contacted a local newspaper columnist who ran a story about Betty’s efforts to save the dogs at the lake and in a conversation with her told her she was an “angel” for helping these dogs, and that is how we came up with our name. Most of our dogs are still rescued from that area.
I became involved with ARNT when after driving home from work one day I saw three dogs walking alongside the road near the lake. They were so thin. I couldn’t just drive by without trying to help them so I pulled over and got out and was able to entice them into my car with some reluctance. They were all girls. I intended to just drop them off at the local shelter but when I got there I was told they would probably be held for a few days then be euthanized because of their poor condition. My heart wouldn’t let me leave them there so I took them home with me. A couple of months later I met the head of another rescue group that was holding an adoption event outside a local pet store and she gave me Betty's number. After talking with her she agreed to take the girls into her rescue group if I would foster them until they were adopted. That was 14 years ago and I became a regular foster and attended the adoption events with her until she retired at which time I took over the group. I still have one of my original rescued girls that didn’t get adopted because of some social issues. Her name is Sally and she is nearing the end of her circle of life but still shows her gratitude towards me for saving her all those years ago with her trusting eyes and wagging tail.
ARNT is a non-profit rescue group that doesn’t receive any funding so depend on donations to provide care for these needy animals and to keep this rescue group operating. We were fortunate enough to have some property donated to us last year however there is a lot of work needed to get it into a comfortable living condition for the dogs. We now have 29 on site with most of them living in outdoor kennels. I currently do most of the work on the property by myself and have exhausted all my savings and now depend on my small social security income to pay bills associated with the property and care for myself and the dogs. In addition to money needed for their general care such as food, supplies, medication, veterinary care (we currently have two dogs that need minor surgery and two that need hip surgery), we need a facility to house them and store their food and other supplies and also construct separate exercise areas. Before that can be done, we must clear an area on the property where we want to erect the facility. We desperately need financial support in order to continue our rescue efforts and care of these animals.
We are a "No Kill" rescue group and all donations are tax deduct-able. You can view a few of our sweet fur babies up for adoption at: www.arnt.petfinder.com.
