Throughout High School I have been involved with the Distributive Education Clubs of America
[DECA], a club that specializes in marketing and entrepreneurship. On March 6th I participated in the Florida DECA 55th Annual Career Development Conference. The conference has many competitions for students to participate in, one being a Sports and Entertainment Promotion Plan.
In my project I had to take a sports team or entertainment event that is struggling and develop a season long promotion plan for them. It consisted of a 11 page paper and a 15 minute powerpoint presentation. On top of that, there is a 100 question test on marketing that has a significant weight on the overall score. This is often considered the most competitive event to be in.
I luckily placed 1st out of over 30 other students in this event, giving me the chance to represent the state of Florida at national competition in Anaheim, California! The problem is the trip cost $900 dollars
The school will cover $300 of the cost, which means the cost will be around $600 for me to pay. There are fundraising events at school that I will definitely participate in, however it will only cover a fraction of the cost.
I have worked on this project for well over 4 months, and it would be a great learning experience for me to see how my project stacks up to everyone else's.
