Angel Ceja is a 13-year-old teenager who is a big soccer fan. He is funny, caring, and loves playing with his cousins.
Angel has been fighting for his life since he was born. When he was born he had heart murmurs. By age 4 he had hearing loss and needed hearing aids. Recently, he began not wanting to eat and had unexplained bruises that would not go away. His doctor at Valley Children's Hospital in Madera tested him for different illnesses. He was then sent to Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford for additional testing. The following week, he was diagnosed with Leukemia.
What is leukemia? "Leukemia is cancer of the white blood cells. White blood cells help your body fight infection. Your blood cells form in your bone marrow. In leukemia, the bone marrow produces abnormal white blood cells. These cells crowd out the healthy blood cells, making it hard for blood to do its work" ( https://medlineplus.gov/leukemia.html).
His treatment may include chemotherapy, radiation and stem cell transplantation. His doctors have explained to him and his family that they can anticipate being at the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital for the next six months receiving treatment. Part of the treatment is to completely weaken his immune system to prepare him for stem cell transplant. As a result, he must remain at the hospital away from any exposure to illnesses that could compromise his immune system. Angel was admitted to the hospital on September 21st.
Angel and his family live in Merced, CA. Both his parents are with him at Stanford, while his little sister stays back in Merced, in the care of extended family members to continue going to school. Additionally, Angel's mom is 8 months pregnant and is due in mid-October.
Please help us raise funds to help Angel's parents cover the cost of their home mortgage, and living expenses while Angel is at the hospital receiving treatment.
