Hi, my name is Teresa and I’m fundraising on behalf of my cousin Angelo, who recently suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI).

Angelo, who is 32 years old, just started a new job working for a wholesale company who distributes roofing supplies. He is a driver for the company and comes to this job with many years of experience. On Wednesday, June 29 Angelo was in a tragic accident where he sustained a traumatic brain injury while on the job site. He fell 12 feet from the roof after delivering materials. Angelo was rushed by EMS to the nearest hospital (Mclaren Hospital in Lapeer) to receive care. Once he was brought into the ER and evaluated, it was discovered that Angelo had multiple skull fractures and severe swelling on his brain. These types of skull fractures accompany penetrating brain injuries and can tear the protective covering on the brain.

His parents were told that he needed emergency surgery to prevent further damage to his brain. Besides damage to the brain itself, certain head injuries can lead to severe complications that have life-threatening effects. Angelo was then taken to the OR where a Neurosurgeon performed a decompression craniotomy. A craniectomy is a surgery done to remove a part of your skull in order to relieve pressure in that area when your brain swells. A craniectomy is usually performed after a (TBI) traumatic brain injury. The body’s natural healing response to injury is to swell. Swelling in the brain, however, can be dangerous because the skull restricts the swelling and pushes on the brain. Removing a portion of the skull can reduce the risk of severe brain damage, and may even be life-saving. After the surgery, the bone taken from the skull is usually stored in a freezer. When Angelo recovers, the bone may be replaced.

Besides having a TBI, Angelo also suffers from broken wrists and ribs during his traumatic fall. He currently remains in critical condition on a ventilator in the ICU at Mclaren Hospital in Lapeer.
Recovery from Surgery After Head Injury will be a very long road for Angelo and his family. Most people who undergo brain surgery are already in critical condition because of their injury. Therefore, the length of their recovery depends on how severe their brain injury was. Angelo will require prompt rehabilitation to ensure that he heals correctly. The sooner the therapy, the better chance he will have of making a full recovery.

Angelo has 4 children of his own. Isabelle who is 10, Issac who is 6, Eli and AJ who just turned 5. His soon to be fiancé Eve also has 2 children of her own, Adrianna who is 11 and Michael who is 9. They have a beautiful blended family. He just bought a house in Wyandotte for his growing family. Angelo lives for his family and is a very hardworking young man. He would do anything to help his family. Angelo is always there to support any of his family near or far. I have seen it first hand.
Please consider donating to help relieve the financial stress of bills and time off work for Angelo and his family. Every donation, big or small, affords Angelo and his family more support on the long road ahead. His mother, Maria will be the Beneficiary on this account.
