Hello All:
This gofundme fundraiser is primarily for my wife, Angelic and our family. My hope is that you will read our story and seek the kindness in your heart to help us in time of need - specifically to help us pay for the demanding medical expenses incurred. Please read more for my wife's story. Thank you and God Bless.
On February 5, my wife went into preterm labor at 22 weeks pregnant with our second son. She was air lifted to OSF in Peoria immediately following the short lived ER/Labor and Delivery visit. She was hospitalized for 4 days before learning of the fetal demise at 23 weeks.
On February 10, she delivered our precious Logan Daniel. However, she ran into complications delivering the placenta - so after 6 hours, she underwent a procedure to extrapolate the placenta. Unfortunately, the OSF team incurred difficulties with that procedure. According to the specialists and the pathology report, the placenta not only was attached to her uterine wall but was imbedded deep within her uterus and stuck to her previous cesesrian scar tissue. As they continued the procedure, she began to hemmorage. Major blood was lost while trying to complete the procedure. In order to stop the bleeding, she was immediately sent to the operating table for an emergency hysterectomy to remove her whole uterus. During that time, she underwent 19 blood transfusions to replenish all of the blood that was lost and to stabilize her. This was a very scary situation as we almost lost my wife.
Angelic was later placed in the ICU at OSF 6+ hours after what was supposed to be a 45 minute procedure. She did regain consciousness quickly but her blood pressure was dangerously low. She was on a breathing tube for a day and a half until she was breathing on her own. After many blood tests and cultures and vitals monitoring, she was discharged on February 14.
We ran into another hiccup on February 17 sending her back to our local hospital until February 19.
It is now February 24. She is alive and here with us. She is recovering slowly but surely. She still has a long road ahead. I am grateful because I don't know what I would do with out her.
On behalf of our family, I am asking for donations to help pay for the medical expenses. Any little bit helps and will go straight into a separate bank account at RIAFCU to pay for the looming medical bills.
If you are not able to donate, that is perfectly okay and understandable. I just ask that you please keep praying for Angelic and our family as we take it day by day during this difficult time. This has been one of the hardest things in my life to get through, watching it all happen did not feel real. Felt as if I were in a nightmare that I couldn't wake up from. We both have not had the time to process the loss of our sweet baby Logan, that will be another hurdle I'm sure...
Many Thanks,
Matt Cumberworth Jr
