A message from Angela’s friends at the Salish Sea Empathy Society:
Together with Angela, we have started a GoFundMe campaign to allow friends and supporters to help Angela as she recovers and recuperates from an extended bout with a debilitating disease. We know Angela to be a kind, compassionate, committed, creative, generous and community-oriented person.
Angela has worked tirelessly to offer programs that further empathy, Nonviolent Communication (NVC), conflict resolution, and empowerment locally and beyond the Salish Sea to a global community. She is an NVC trainer and assessor and a founding, former Director of the Salish Sea Empathy Society, whose mission is to cultivate community resilience by supporting champions of social change in response to the challenges of our times.
Angela and her family have been an active contributors to the community on Gabriola Island for the past 10 years. Please consider supporting Angela in her rehabilitation, cost of living and goal of developing new ways to support herself financially.

From Angela: Despite a successful surgery, my recovery is going to take some time. The nature of the disease I had was a pretty drastic chemical upheaval in my body, and it can take a long time for the body to re-adjust to the new normal. For those of you who have read "My Stroke of Insight", I am experiencing a similar gift/challenge of struggling with left-brain functions such as following/participating in basic communication and following/creating structure/lists/instructions.
The irony is not lost on me that I have gone from being a communications trainer to being unable to communicate in some basic ways.
On the flip side, the pain is almost gone and I am starting to regain my physical strength. I can eat regular meals, enjoying a daily walk and seemed to have the capacity for heightened observation and creative output.
I’m able to inhabit the realm of metaphor, imagination and dreams with some ease. One of my outlets and sources of inspiration over the last 6 months have been with dream teacher Robert Moss, through whom I’ve been learning and deepening in the skills of healing and empowerment in this realm.

Key to my healing journey has been picking up the blow torch again (much of our home was built with wood that I treated with the sugi ban fire technique).

It has been a long and challenging journey - personally and for my family. It has been emotionally/energetically draining and this illness has had huge financial implications. I have been struggling with symptoms for years, but it really swooped in on me in the winter of 2019, ultimately leaving me unable to work. My surgery in the USA came at a great cost and was only possible through the support of my extended family.
I don't know where recovery will take me. It is clear, for now, that teaching (Nonviolent Communication) NVC and supporting NVC Trainers is currently not an option.
Through it all, many of the members of my family and community have been along for the ride. Many helped with meals when I was unable to cook and Mitch was struggling to cook the limited items I could eat, while also cooking meals and lunches for the ‘teens’. HUGE GRATITUDE! We have received a weekly food box from our local social services organization. Also gratitude and profound respect for the role this plays in our community.

In response to how you can help and as an open request of what would support us:
I would greatly receive contributions that I could use to cover the costs of:
Rehabilitation (massage, acupuncture, physiotherapy)
Basic costs of living while I get back on my feet
Income redirect: help me get set up with the tools and safety equipment I need to produce art: sculptures and artistic objects for the home
My dream at the moment is to find other ways to generate income. I am working on burnt wood and metal sculptures that I hope will “wow” my friends and neighbours and lead to some income. There are some small items such as candle holders that I am also creating. I hope to fully step into the role that so many come to Gabriola (The Isle of the Arts) for.
Would it bring you joy to contribute towards my healing?
