Angela's Dream: A Tea House in Half Moon Bay

This is a general, ongoing fundraiser as I work towards my dream of opening a tea house!

I want you to feel SPECIAL! I want you to be happy and have joyful experiences! That would make ME happy!

And that's why I want to open By the Teashore - a breakfast and lunch Tea House in Half Moon Bay, California! I envision a restaurant where people walk in and immediately feel SPECIAL! I want people to make memories there, whether it's taking their grandmother to breakfast or hosting a private baby shower or business meeting. Or, like I did with my kids, bringing them to a tea house every year on their birthday, literally starting with their first birthday (what on earth possessed me?? But it became a beautiful tradition!)!

I've had this dream for 15+ years and in January 2023 while living here on the Northern California Coast, the name just popped into my head: By the Teashore ! I took this as a sign to finally set my dream afloat! I got an LLC and I trademarked the name, and it's been off to the races!

I've been looking for a location for 2+ years and am waiting for a restaurant space to become available, as a location that requires a commercial kitchen buildout is very expensive.

And if you know me, I don't do anything halfway (as they used to say in Mythbusters: "Anything worth doing is worth OVERdoing!")! Instead of the easy, mismatched china, I have been amassing full sets for china (literally thousands of pieces!!), so each table will have their own matching set of Haviland or Noritake or Royal Doulton or Lenox, etc., with coordinating linens. I've been paying for storage for the china plus vintage artwork, vintage mirrors, vintage chandeliers, velvet and marble furniture, etc. I'm committed!!

But if you would like to help a "solo-preneur" small, woman-owned business buy the things I'll need, that would save me from the fees of a small business loan. Your donations are appreciated from every corner of my heart!

Depending on the location, I will need a self-contained ventless oven, multi-burner stove, griddle, triple sink, handwashing station, refrigerator, large rack dishwasher, freezer, storage racks, prep tables, dining tables, chairs, flatware, glassware (I have plenty of teacups, haha!!), a Point-of-Sale system, and alarm system, wallpaper, exterior and interior paint, cleaning supplies, pots and pans, cooking utensils, floor mats, additional lighting, food, beverages, beer & wine license fee for mimosas (of course!), etc. And I need to make sure I have enough money to pay the rent for at least a year. It's a tall order, yes.

While the tea house will be open from 8am-3pm, there is the potential for the tea house to host special events in the evenings, like live music, a quilting bee, paint & sip, poetry reading, and so forth. SO much potential at By the Teashore !!

And with over 95,000 miles of shoreline in the United States, there could be expansion or franchise opportunities!

Whether you can donate $5 or $20 or something else, it will ALL make a tremendous impact!

I have the mentorship of two local restauranteurs, and there is tremendous buzz already throughout the community and actually, across the country! Yes, we all know that the restaurant business can be brutal and I'm not going in eyes wide shut. But I know I bring to the table many qualities and experiences that some folks may not have - and think about the last time you went out to eat where you were enamored with your surroundings, the food, the ambiance, the staff...where you felt SPECIAL!
