Angela's Liver Transplant

Spende geschützt
Angela Borup Johnson, my sister, needs a liver transplant. I wish that I was a match for her! I wish that I could donate part of my liver so her life can be saved! Although I can't do that, I am hoping I can help alleviate some burden and worry by setting this fundraiser up. A liver transplant will be lifesaving, but it is extremely expensive.

Angela is a loving wife to Evon, and together they have 4 children, ages 18-12. Angela has always loved living an active life and being involved with her family. Her health has now deteriorated to the point that it is very hard for her to do the things she loves to do. She has severe fatigue, struggles to even get a few hours of sleep each night, and has developed extreme jaundice. She isn't able to do a lot of the simple, day to day things that she wants to. Things like volunteering at her kids' schools, attending church every week with her family, and doing all the things she used to as a stay at home mom. This has taken such a toll on her family, and she longs to get back the life she used to live.

She has been battling ulcerative colitis since 2004. She was then diagnosed in 2013 with Crohn's disease, autoimmune hepatitis, and PSC. Primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) is a chronic liver disease characterized by a progressive worsening of the bile ducts. There is no cure for this disease. In the summer of 2019, she was told that she needs a liver transplant, as her liver is failing. The disease can't be controlled with just medicine at this point.  Not only is Angela dealing with her health, but she has a young daughter with medical issues of her own that requires frequent trips to a specialist in the Midwest for surgeries.

Angela has been traveling back and forth to Salt Lake City, Utah from her home in Boise, Idaho to see a specialist for her own illnesses for about a year. Though this liver transplant will save her life, it will be financially draining. Angela does have insurance, but there are a multitude of out-of-pocket expenses that insurance does not cover.  Once a donor match has been found for her, she will have to stay in Salt Lake for 8-12 weeks with two full time caregivers. She will be on a lifetime of anti-rejection medicines, as well as have maintenance doctor appointments for the rest of her life. Some of these transplant-related costs are travel, lodging for her and her caretakers while they must stay in Utah following transplant surgery, co-pays, deductibles, and a myriad of other unforeseen costs.

She was put on the UNOS national transplant list in December and is now awaiting a match- whether it be from a living donor or deceased donor. Once she gets a call, she may have only hours before heading to Utah for months.

Like all things in her life, Angela is handling this devastating news with grace and faith. We love Angela and are excited for the day she will be able to get back to the life she wants to live!

With all the expenses this transplant will incur, every donation is a literal blessing.
Thank you for your prayers and support!
