A New Heart for Angela
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Carla and my wonderful friends, the Aronows, need our help. Angela (55), her husband Sandy and their 14-year-old daughter, Emerson, have been through a lot over the last two years. Angela’s life changed dramatically in March of 2022 when she was diagnosed with heart failure. Her former employer worked with her health limitations as long as they could, but ultimately could not hold her position any longer.
Angela is currently in end-stage heart failure and recently had a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted. Insurance has approved her for a LVAD (L Ventricular Assist Device) and/or a heart transplant at Baylor Scott and White Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Her husband, Sandy, has been working two jobs (60 hours a week) for the last two years just to keep them afloat. They have exhausted all of their savings and are barely living paycheck to paycheck. Even though she has health insurance through Sandy’s employer, there are still multiple copays for the doctor’s appointments and procedures she has had so far, and many more to come. The copays, incidentals, and the cost of medications are piling up and are overwhelming. Currently, they are paying well over $300.00 out of pocket for monthly medications. This amount will only go up. Angela is in the process of applying for Social Security Disability benefits. If approved, Medicare will not take effect for 24 months! She may not have 24 months.
They need our help, so we are reaching out to all of our family and friends requesting donations for Angela’s continued care. If you can donate, we will appreciate it. As always, your prayers are greatly appreciated.
Angela met with the Cardiac surgeon to determine if she is medically eligible for the LVAD or heart transplant. Only the heart transplant is a viable option. These types of surgeries are not available in the state of New Mexico, so she will have to go to Dallas (Baylor Scott and White) to save her life. They have a support system in Dallas, which is why Baylor was selected. If Angela is able to get the heart transplant, the family may need to relocate to the Dallas area for a certain amount of time for continued care. Their daughter, Emerson, is in a great school in Albuquerque with extracurricular activities where she is thriving. Therefore, Sandy may have to split his time between them so as to not uproot Emerson. A heart transplant is 1.3 to 1.6 million dollars. Her insurance has approved the heart transplant, but the Aronows are responsible for all the copays, medications, living expenses, travel and possible moving expenses. Sandy and Angela will be going back to Baylor for 5 to 6 more days of testing, evaluations and counseling before even being put on the transplant list. They are required to stay by the hospital, so they will have to pay all associated costs.
Angela’s medical obstacles are overwhelming enough without the financial strain it has put on them as a family. Please consider helping alleviate the Aronow’s financial strain so that they can put all their efforts into fighting together for Angela’s life.
We are hoping to raise $100,000 for the Aronows. Thank you for contributing to Angela’s fight and recovery. We would greatly appreciate it if you would share this GoFundMe with your family and friends. Thank you!
