On March 2nd, Angela was diagnosed with multicentric invasive ductal cell carcinoma (left breast). The past two months have been a whirlwind of tests, MRIs, biopsies and doctor's visits (while still working full time). Mastectomy is the only option for the left, and as Angela puts it “I don’t want to be lopsided,” so a bilateral mastectomy is scheduled for 5/22.
This fundraiser is to help make up the difference between disability payments and her salary and to assist with some of the medical expenses. So far, there’s no evidence that the invasive cancer has spread to her lymph nodes—which is great news! This will be confirmed on Monday as well.
All of us are planning on her complete recovery —“ain’t nobody got time for this nonsense!” We will make sure she and Guy are well fed, and that she has rides to all of her appointments (which will go on for several months through reconstruction). Any assistance, good vibes, and well wishes are truly appreciated. We’ll update this page with info on her recovery.
Angela’s note: one of my oncologists remarked that my annual mammogram saved my life. We’d be having a different conversation if I’d waited until next year. Don’t skip your annual ‘smash and grab’! This is a numbers game. A certain percentage of us are going to have breast cancer. It’s my turn this time. Kicking ass, taking names. XO
