Today has been a very rough day. My girlfriend Angela was the victim of a phone scam that was able to prey on her particularly effectively because we are both currently rattled by the fact that her mother is in an ongoing health crisis. We’ve followed up with Angela’s bank and every relevant customer service line we could find to try and get the scammed money back, but so far we have no guarantee that that will be possible, or when the money will be returned if it does turn out to be recoverable. She’s out $5000, which she’d been saving up over four years, and had currently been using as a buffer to cover rent and living expenses while looking for a job in Seattle. I’m writing the donation page description on her behalf because she (understandably) doesn’t have the emotional bandwidth for it at the moment, but the money will go to her.

If you are able to give anything, it will help ensure that she continues to have a safe financial buffer for covering rent and food while working, and keep any possible sudden travel expenses related to her mom’s health from breaking the bank for both of us. Getting the $5000 back would be amazing, but getting even $500 in donations would help create a sense of safety and security that we just don’t have right now.
