Angela and Trent's Burn Recovery Fund

Donation protected
Our good friend and colleague Angela Shepherd and her husband Trent Oxman suffered a tragedy this past August. Trent was lighting the stove on their boat, thought the stove was empty and starting pouring more fuel (alcohol). Suddenly, fire started bouncing everywhere. The fuel spilled on them while they were trying to put out the fire and get the container off the boat.

Trent suffered third degree burns to his arms, leg and foot. Angela suffered third degree burns to her legs and arms, covering 46 % of her body. Both had to be intubated (Angela for 22 days) and have undergone multiple graft surgeries.

Angela and Trent have received excellent care at the Sunnybrook Hospital burn unit. Trent is now at home with nursing care and Angela, now conscious and breathing on her own, has moved to St. John’s Rehabilitation Centre.

“We’re very thankful to be alive,” says Angela.

So many people have asked what they can do to help after this tragic event. Signing a card just doesn’t feel like enough. Those of us who have worked with Angela closely know what a kind-hearted person she is and we know she’d do everything she could for us if the circumstances were reversed.

We are so grateful that Angela and Trent are making excellent progress in their recovery, but they are both physically unable to work and have extra medical bills. We are starting this GoFundMe page to take some of the financial pressure off while they focus on their recovery.

Please share widely and donate what you can. Thank you!
